Reflection Lakes XC Ski/Snowshoe

  • This location is shown only to members

  • Who: beginning/intermediate Snowshoers and intermediate XC Skiers.

Guest signup is disabled: to save the Event Host's time on Wait List management, Guest signups are disabled. For that reason, all participants must be Meetup.com members and RSVP Yes.

Route description: starts from Narada Falls in Mt Rainier National Park and ascends a forest trail with a few rolling sections before reaching Stevens Canyon road.  Route ends at Louise Lake a half mile or so east of Reflection Lakes.  None of the route is groomed for Nordic (track) skiing.

XC Skiers note: the forest trail between Narada Falls and Stevens Canyon road can be challenging on narrow cross country skis.  For that reason, like me, you may want to bring snowshoes for this section of the route.

    Round-trip distance: 6 miles.

    Elevation gain: 600 feet.

    Pace: Moderate.

    Duration: ~3 hours.

    Permit: Mt Rainier National Park.

Drive duration from park-n-ride to trailhead: 2 hours.

Carpooling and fuel reimbursement: Riders please bring cash to compensate your driver.

    Weather forecast

Poor weather, ski conditions, and/or road conditions will cancel this event.

Alright well that will make myself improbable as well. It is a really long drive to not car pool from up here. Especially that early in the morning. Hopefully your son is able to find a ride by Sunday though.

Hi Daniel, I'd be happy to pick you up, but waiting for my son to confirm his ride to work for Sunday. I will keep up to date on this list when I know. Hope I can make it, it sounds like a lovely day.

Does anyone have Etta's contact info so I can get a hold of her to try and organize carpooling from up here around Arlington/Lake Stevens/Everett.

Brian, have you checked the snow conditions recently? Just want to make sure there is enough snow to snowshoe/ski at the lower altitude that Reflection Lakes is at. The snow level hasn't dropped much below 3500ft yet as far as I know. I really do want to go but don't really want to if there isn't any snow.

I was just making sure conditions will be adequate. Hopefully it dumps tomorrow and adds another 1+ feet of snow. Depending on the snow pack you don't even need snowshoes in 12-18 inches of snow. Some good mountaineering or snow boots and possibly some microspikes and you are golden.

I've been watching snow levels and the forecast all week long. By Saturday morning, if the forecast changes for the worst, I will cancel the event.

I would like to note, I have a possible +1, the system won't let me register it

If you're driving you and your guest that's okay. If not, I can only offer one seat in one vehicle for you.

Hi Brian, my guest is only has a small possibility of being available. If its alright with you, I would like to take you up on the carpooling seat offer, and if she shows up I will try to work it out.

Etta, would you be willing to carpool down to the P&R since I am near? I could meet you in Arlington or somewhere south near Lake Stevens or Everett.

so is it the Paradise Entrance? If I were coming from Yakima I would have to be at trailhead at 10:00?

    November 15, 2012

    • Brian

Yes, entrance is Paradise. As the 12th participant, you're welcome to meet us at Narada Falls. Please join the wait list if you wish to go. Thanks.

Thanks to the following people who have offered to drive which helped bump the RSVP total to 11: Scott (3 passengers), Nancy (3 passengers), Etta (3 passengers). Final group size will be no more than 12 people.

Brian, I’m not able to make this trip however, I’m looking forward to learning how to snowshoe this season. I hope you’ll have more beginner trips in the future.

    November 15, 2012

  • Gregory J.

If I went I'd like to take a beginners cross country class. Is there a possibility of doing that.

    November 15, 2012

  • Brian

Once additional drivers signup, I will increase the number of spots to match the total number of passenger seats. Ideally, drivers have AWD/4WD. The National Park Service will require chains for all vehicles between Longmire and Paradise.

    I will need to carpool, I don't have a 4x4. Also I am snowshoe.
