Full Moon, snow shoe, bonfire and outdoor potluck

We've done a moonlight snow shoe with a potluck bonfire most years and it's been great fun. the biggest challenge is selecting a location that has snow and allows a bonfire, I have 3 spots in mind and will nail this down over the next few days. Everyone should wear winter gear including a headlamp. I have extra snow shoes, state : "need to borrow" if you need to borrow" in your RSVP. Everyone should bring 2-3 pieces of firewood and a dish to share for the potluck.

I will carry the firewood up the hill on my sled and get the fire built so it's ready and the food that I will cook in the fire is ready when you get back.

  • 5:50 PM -6:10 PM - Meet for carpools and decide on which route we are snow shoeing (I will have gone up that morning, http://www.meetup.com/adventurers-96/events/95320922  so I should know where there is adequate snow)
  • 7:00PM - 8:30PM - Snowshoeing
  • 8:30-9:00 - food ready at bonfire.
  • 9:45-10pm - Put out fire start heading back
  • 11pm - back at Park & Ride

People that asked for snow shoes but I don't have any left for:

Carrie Schaden guest4 and guest 5, Carrie and I used to work together, and with her dragging her menagerie with her I considered renaming the event, hiking with Carrie ;-)

If anyone has an extra pair,  please bring them and let Carrie know. Carrie is a member of PNWHB.

Drivers - we will select carpools in Issaquah based on who shows up, it works better than reserving rides and having a driver or a rider no show, plus it gives you a chance to meet the people in the other meetup group, I simply list the drivers so that we can make sure that we have enough of them.

I don't have any spare, but wanted to let you know: I got a set of snowshoes and poles from Costco for $70 as an impulse buy. They seem pretty good for the price.

    Greetings, Saul!

Just an FYI: my friend Marin and I have snowshoes. Depending on which trail we hike, we might need a lift, though. We don't have SUVs or cars which easily traverse challenging terrain. We could also use some guidance on what to bring food-wise. (NOTE: I am pescetarian.)

    Thanks a million!

Hi Adam, where in Bellevue are you? I will find out the bus line about this. I dont have any good hiking shoes nor snow shoes.

    December 27, 2012

    • Saul_K

Den, you will wear hiking boots the whole time, snow shoes attach to the bottom of your boots and you'll only wear the snow shoes in the deeper snow and not when you're near the bonfire, that's why you want warm boots that are fairly waterproof.

      December 27, 2012

    • quant

OK, i will go to goodwill find a hiking shoes tommorow, but still need to borrow snow whoes

      December 27, 2012

  • Marilyn

a problem at work and I need to cancel. I was so looking forward to this too.

    December 27, 2012

We'll see you on the next one.

      December 27, 2012

  • quant

I need more details! Who is offering a ride? How to borrow gears? I am in North Seattle, who is living close by?

    December 27, 2012

    • Saul_K

Den, as the event states you'll need your own cold weather gear and boots. if you need poles bring ski poles, I don't have extra poles.

      December 27, 2012

    • quant

i dont think i need poles as long as i have snow shoes, i dont have any good hiking shoes either.

      December 27, 2012

  • quant

Is there buses will take me back to Seattle after 11pm?

    December 27, 2012

  • quant

Also Adam, if i catch the bus to Bellevue, tell me what time should I be there. thanks

    December 27, 2012

  • Adam D.

I can take 3-5 passengers in my RWD truck and I have chains.

    December 27, 2012

    • quant

Can i reserve one spot? thanks! I also need to borrow snow shoes.

      December 27, 2012

    • Adam D.

4 will be tight, but doable. Anthony, let me know.

      December 27, 2012

  • Saul_K

Adam put yourself on the waiting list, that way if a spot opens up the system notifies you and you can get in.

    December 26, 2012

    • Saul_K

Ana, oops, I just added a waiting list. Adam dogs are OK on this one so I added +1 to your RSVP since they count against our party size limits.

Well I just joined your meet up group and I've never snow shoed at night...let alone a bonfire potluck! Very creative idea! I would appreciate some direction as to what to make to bring. I'll give you a call Saul. Thank you.

    December 26, 2012

    • Saul_K

Michele, what to bring, pretty much anything that can be transported without spilling all over the vehicle and is fairly easy to serve. things that can be eaten by hand tend to work best as people often toss their paper plates out and then decide to get seconds.
