Description:
The trail takes off in second-growth timber, climbing gently and carefree. Lena Creek can be heard crashing in the distance. After about a mile, come to impressive old growth. As the trail nears Lena Creek, prepare for a surprise. You soon find yourself standing on a bridge over missing waters. Lena Creek makes a subterranean passage below, leaving you standing high and dry over a mossy, rocky draw.

Before you actually make it to Lower Lena Lake, the trail to Upper Lena Lake begins. The trail is less maintained and is a little steeper (2650 feet elevation gain on 4 miles). About half way to the lake the trail crosses through flower filled alpine meadows. At the top, the lake is nestled right under Mount Lena with spectacular views. Mountain goats are popular in this area and elk have been seen as well.

Driving Directions:
Drive U.S. 101 along Hood Canal to the Hamma Hamma River Road (FR 25) 2.3 miles north of Eldon. Drive 7.6 miles to the trailhead.

Please bring Gas money for drivers $10 suggested

A hiker reports only a small patch of snow over trail; lake melted out. All campsites and group site are snow-free. All bear wires and both privies operable. Lena Creek ford is currently running swift, slippery and somewhat difficult to cross. 19 down trees below park boundary, 13 above.

No ice ax or crampons needed unless you are planning on continuing on with a side trip to climb mount Lena. The reports say very little snow but there will be a creek ford
