Winter Solstice Celebration Hike

  • Dec 21, 2012 · 10:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

We will be doing a moderate hike ( about 6 miles) in the Capitol Forest to celebrate the Winter Solstice. I am expecting there to be snow, so be prepared for it. I am not bringing Snowshoes, but I will bring my micro spikes, just in case.

In the next couple days I will post more detailed information about the hike but I wanted to let people know about it, as I was figuring things out.

Warning: We will be celebrating the Winter Solstice, this is not a religious event but some aspects might be considered so. If you might be offended, please do not attend.

This hike requires full participation. I want to have fun and enjoy myself, while celebrating the Solstice. There will be one surprise activity and a lantern procession ( not the whole hike, just a section). Everyone needs to bring a lantern. You can get them for around $10 at Ross, Fred Meyers ect.. or you can make your own www.ernc.org/documents/MilkCartonLanternInstructions.pdf . No open flames. I will have extra tea light candles, and battery operated ones.

Pass: Discover Pass

No Guests : Everyone needs to be a member

Dogs: NO

Please bring Gas money for drivers, and the 10 essentials http://www.wta.org/hiking-info/basics/ten-essentials and a bag for muddy boots.

I leave on time. I do not wait. Please arrive 10 min before 10:00 am

Disclaimer: We will be in the wilderness. Serious injury or death can occur. I am not a professional guide or medically trained, by attending this hike you are assuming responsibility for your own personal safety and I can not be held responsible.

    Final Hike Description

My hiking friends scouted this out today ( Thanks Tanna & Woody)
The hike is a lollipop Loop, 5 miles with a 700ft elevation gain.
Some sections have wet slushy snow, micro spikes are not needed but poles came in handy.
We should be back before 3pm but is you need to be back at a specific time, you need to drive yourself just in case we take longer.
We will be celebrating the Solstice, not just hiking, so bring your lantern and a happy attitude.
