Chacala Trail Hike

Let's go hiking on the Chacala Trail! 

You might want to bring the following items with you on this hike:  water, bug spray, snacks, sunscreen, sunglasses, some money, camera, binoculars, and comfortable shoes/sneakers.

Let's have some lunch after the hike at the Florida Cracker Cafe in Micanopy.

Length of Trail: 6 miles total

Description of Trail:  Mostly shady and flat with some sunny sections.  This well-marked trailhead is located at the first main intersection inside the southern part of the park.

Admission Fees: $6.00 per carload

Carpooling: For those of you who live in Ocala that are interested in carpooling, lets meet at the Winn-Dixie Shopping Center located on N Pine Ave & NW 35th St at 9:15.

      Hello Branson, I'm taking a guess with this one, but I would say that we would be done with the hike in early afternoon, like around 12:30-1:00. I would recommend driving your car to the hike and back if you have another commitment in the afternoon.

    I did the northern Lachua trail about 3 weeks ago and I haven't seen the water levels as high as they were that day EVER! There were big gators all over what little dry land they could find--laying beside the trail and laying on the trail--it was a fantastic viewing opportunity! If the southern area of the Prairie still has high water levels then this will be a good hike.
