Florida Trail Hike at Juniper Springs

Let's go hiking on the Florida Trail at Juniper Springs!

This trail is very special and unique.  We will make stops at Whispering Creek and Whiskey Creek.  We will also stop at Hidden Pond (it's a wonderful swimming area) and then turn around and head back to Juniper Springs.

You might want to bring the following items with you on this trail:  sunglasses, sunscreen, bathing suit, towel, hat, water, snacks, some money, comfortable shoes/sneakers, camera, and binoculars.

Description of the trail: This trail is mostly sunny with a couple of small slopes.

Length of Trail: 12 miles round trip. This is definitely our most challenging trail!  For those that would like a shorter trail, it's about 5 miles round-trip to Whispering Creek and back.

Admission Fee: $6.50 per person

Important Note: This park has clean restrooms and a concession stand; however, it is located in a remote area of the Ocala National Forest. There's a Winn-Dixie, Subway, and Kangaroo at Forest Corners (SR 40 & CR 314A).  This is the last shopping area on E Silver Springs Blvd before you come to Juniper Springs.  I highly recommend buying gas, food, and water here before venturing out further on SR 40.

Carpooling:  Let's meet at the Winn-Dixie Forest Corners shopping center on SR 40 & CR 314A at 9:15.  We'll carpool to Juniper Springs.

I'm not sure what the name of the trail was. We turned left, crossed SR 40 and headed southeast. It goes to Alexander Springs (14.6 miles from SR 40). We hiked about an hour and a half, then turned back.

I'm planning on the 5-mile hike and will be at Winn Dixie if anyone wants to ride with me.

We'll be meeting in the main parking lot (the one closest to the pool and the restrooms) at Juniper Springs at 10:00. For those who are interested in carpooling, we'll meet at the Winn-Dixie Forest Corners Shopping Center on SR 40 & CR 314A at 9:15.

Sounds good to me, too. Will you be meeting at the Winn Dixie parking lot?

Would you please confirm which of the two parking lots we are meeting at (the main one or the one by the trail head at the pool)?

Hi Linda! I may join you and the group of participants for the hike. Sounds like fun, and it has been a long time since I hiked that trail. I have to wait on a few camping details first.

This sounds like a nice trail, I will wait till it gets a little closer in time to register and have a better idea of my schedule. :)
