Butano State Park preserves a rich central canyon with a wide diversity of plants and trees plus views from the upper areas.
Hike is 12 miles and 2100 feet gain. We start off on the Mill Ox trail, then the Jackson Flats trail through the heart of the canyon, Butano Creek, and redwood forests. Canyon trail then brings us further in and up to the rim. We'll then head up to the trail camp. We are also going to include the Ray Linder Memorial trail. Return will be on the Olmo Fire Road, Indian trail, Doe Ridge trail, Goat Hill trail, and the Ano Nuevo trail which loses 800 feet in .8 mile. Bring your parachute. Its an advanced hike.
From Santa Cruz we will carpool from the far side of Gateway Plaza Shopping Center River Street at 9:30. Bring state park pass if you have one. Afternoon lunch at Chipotle in Gateway Center is a consideration.
