Latest Update: We do have a docent to provide us a tour of Elkhorn which will be roughly 2 to 2 and half hours. We could explore further afterwards. Only one docent is available so only 20 people can participate. It will be $4 per person. Try to bring four ones.
Elkhorn Slough Reserve includes tidal waters with a mixture of habitats. Seals, Otters, Batrays, Sharkfins, can be seen there. Countless variety of birds and woodrat nests in a tree can be found. We'll wander 5 miles of trail including hummingbird island. Officially they charge $4 per person unless you have a fishing or hunting license. Binoculars are great to bring. They actually lend excellent binoculars for free in the informative visitor center.
We'll carpool from Nisene Marks entrance. Carpool directions: Highway 1 to Salinas Road where you turn left. Past Golf course veer Right onto Werner Road. At the bottom of the hill Right turn onto Elkhorn Road. Go .25 mile then turn Right again onto Elkhorn Road. Go 5 miles on Elkhorn Road and enjoy views of the North Marsh. Turn Right at reserve gate. We can try to caravan. We meet at 10 at the visitor center.
