This is a route in one of the most scenic parts of Wicklow, circling around Lough Tay and taking in the summit of Luggala. It's not overly long at around 10km, but there is however one catch: the ascent of Luggala is via the east gully which may not be to everyone's taste.
Whilst not especially difficult, this gully is nonetheless quite steep and in bad weather would be fairly challenging. The approach to the base of the gully is over a boulder field.
The route also crosses the Cloghoge river, which involves clambering over large boulders and slabs of rock. Again this is quite straightforward and in the number of times I've done it, water levels weren't a problem.
Members should consider whether they're comfortable with this sort of terrain before signing up.
