on Have decided to schedule this as a meetup after all as there does seem to be some interest...I'm suggesting we meet at 11 in the carpark of the Ramparts Boyne walk in Navan. It's a pretty flat walk so won't be a challenging walk or very varied in terms of terrain but the walk takes you alongside the river and to the village of Slane and is a pleasant, scenic walk. Not sure if anything will be open on New Year's Day so might be worth bringing along a packed lunch and something to drink though we can perhaps repair back to my parents house in Navan afterwards for some tea and biccies and maybe something stronger... The walk can be mucky enough along the river in parts so am intending to wear hiking boots myself though you could probably get away with runners. Must admit have only ever walked a mile or two of the walk, not as far as Slane anyway so it'll be a discovery walk for myself as well! Think the weather forecast is to be dry and fine for the day and it won't be an early start (for anyone who might be thinking of heading out the night before!).
Navan is only a half hour drive from Dublin if you take the M3 motorway. Head in the direction of Cavan/Navan and after Dunshaughlin take the exit for Navan south (past the exit for Johnstown). This should bring you to a roundabout which will then take you onto the old N3 Dublin-Navan road. Take the first exit (left) at the roundabout and keep straight for about a kilometre. You should go through 2 sets of traffic lights and pass a garage (Maxol or Topaz?)on your left-hand side. At the 3rd set of lights you come to, you should turn right and literally 20 seconds after you've turned, you will come to the Ramparts car park which is a small gateway (not barred) on your left hand side. It's easy to miss if you're not looking out for it so the moment you've turned, watch out for a small opening on your left. It's past the old Spicers Bakery if I remember correctly.....
Otherwise, any probs, just ring me at[masked] .
Hope to see ye there!
