Day Hike At Grayson Highlands

  • May 25, 2013 · 7:30 AM
  • Food Lion @ I-77 Exit 23

This will be a 9+- mile day hike from Elk Gardens to Massy Gap by way of the AT Trail. If I have enough participants  we will set up a shuttle so that one vechicle will be left at Massy Gap. The hike would proceed North along the AT to the summit of Mt. Rogers (elevation 5729). Elk Garden appears to be at approximatly a elevation of 4500 resulting in a elevation gain of approximatly 1229'+-. I have done the section from Massy Gap to Mt Rogers and would rate this hike from moderate to strenous. Only those who have recently done hikes of this length and difficulty should sign up. Participants should be prepared with a lunch, water, a head lamp, good hiking boots and wet weather gear. Participants should also dress in layers as the weather may be subject to change. A stop for dinner will be considered on the way back to Charlotte.
