Meeting place to be determined.
Please read all of the information.
Directions to the PnR: Folks this PnR does not have a name. It's not a RTD lot. There are signs directing you to the 'carpool' lot.
Going South on I-25 take exit 188 (Castle Pines Pkwy). Turn left at the light. Go about 1/4 mile and turn left again. The PnR will be on your left about 1/2 mile down this road. You'll have to leave the PnR by 9:15. It's going to take you about 45 min. to get from here to the trailhead.
Directions to the trailhead: Drive South on I-25, take exit 163 and drive west on County Line Rd. Turn right after crossing railroad tracks onto Spruce Mountain Rd. Drive for 3.5 miles and then park at trail head on your left. Do not turn into the Spruce Mountain Ranch. The trailhead is past that.
There are no bathrooms at the trailhead.
The hike: Folks this is a hike we haven't done before and it's a little ways away but all I read says the views are worth it. Spruce Mountain is a mesa in Douglas County just north of Palmer Lake. There are number of trails you can take from the trail head located at a parking lot off the Spruce Mountain Road. The most direct trail climbs up for about 1.2 miles through series of switchbacks. Once you reach the upper loop you can enjoy leisurely hike on the flat top. The loop is 2.3 miles long, traversing through a mix of forest and meadows with a rewarding view of Pikes Peak's north face at the end. Spruce Mountain is a fairly easy hike but is definitely worth it. Once you are in the area check out other trails in the Greenland Open Space. We'll plan on starting this hike at 10:00 am. I'll try and add more information so you'll know about how long it'll take you to get there.
Length: 5.5 miles loop
Dogs are allowed on a leash of course.
Lunch will be in Castle Rock.
