Snowshoe Caribou Ranch.

US 36 and Sheridan

Directions to PnR: From 92nd go South on Yeates. Turn right just before you get to the parking garage. Yeates is one block East of Sheridan. Allow yourself enough time to find it. We'll leave from this PnR at 8:45. If you are coming off of US 36 take the Sheridan exit going North (right). When you get to the stop light at 92nd turn right and go one block. Yeates will be on your right.

Directions to the trailhead: Take 72 out of Nederland. Turn left onto CO 126 and drive until you get to the parking lot. It's not much over a mile to the parking lot.

The snowshoe: The loop is 4.2 miles and mostly level.

There are restrooms at the trailhead.

No dogs.

Lunch will be in Nederland.

Thanks for the information. I have good snow tires but, did not think about clearance. Sound like it will be OK

Hi, just called Boulder Open Space parks to confirm conditions on 126, they believe a regular clearance vehicle will be ok, no 4wd required. FYI - dogs are not allowed. Hope that helps a bit.

Again, is a 4 wheel drive needed to reach this TH?

    March 1, 2013

    • TrishA

I've driven there with my fwd and if it hasn't snowed the night before you will be fine. If the roads are icy or snow slush it would be difficult or you could get stuck in the parking lot.

I've taken my little civic with snow tires all over. I ask because I may be getting a later start as I have a late event Friday night that I signed up for months ago

I wonder if its like my street in front of my house, snowpacked, bumpy and slick. Doesn't seem to stop folks driving the frontwheelers here but I have not seen any rwd muscle cars recently ;)

Would you like an extra passenger to share gas and the trip..... where would be a good place to meet? The nearest intersection is Quincy and Parker for me.

I'm not familiar with Nederland. How do I access 72?

    February 25, 2013

    • Debbie

Best thing to do is carpool if you don't know the route or drive well in snow. Can also take US36 or 93 to Boulder to Canyon Blvd. Drive west on Canyon which takes you directly into Nederland. At the round about veer to the right towards the Peak to Peak Highway 72. Follow to the second Caribou Ranch Open Space (brown sign), turn left, drive past Mud Lake and Caribou Ranch will be on your right.

Thanks Debbie, last time I was hiking near Nederland I got turned around at that roundabout!
