Backpack into Homestead Meadows.

Ignore the map.

Folks I have done this trip the last four years. It's an easy backpack of about three miles into a beautiful meadow at the peak of the wildflower season in there. We hike in on Friday (you can come in Saturday morning if you want). We camp on a low ridge on the left just above the meadow. (We watched an elk walk through it two years ago). On Saturday we dayhike around and visit some of the old homesteads in there. And we hike back out on Sunday.

The trailhead is just this side of Estes Park on US 36.

I'll provide more details later.

Show up and you get half of your deposit back. Once the trip fills up if you back out after May 1 you do not get your deposit back.

Wonderful trip - I love this location. And such a wonderful group of people! So nice to have a campfire upon my late arrival and lots of help setting up my tent in the dark. I enjoyed meeting you all and hope to see you on the trail again!

One of the most fun trips I've been on since moving to Colorado. Thanks Scott and Mike for everything from the super organization to your skillful tending of my poor blistered feet. This group rocks!

Fantastic hike! It was my first backpacking experience and I loved it, thanks to my helpful co-hikers. Thanks, Scott, another organizing job very well done.

I blew it guys. I've been working 12 hour days all this week and just didn't have my act together. Sorry to everyone, mostly those who would have attended had I dropped earlier.

About how many miles once I leave Lyons, and is the trailhead marked with a sign that says Lion Gulch Trail?

    June 4, 2013

    • Rebecca O.

I googled it and found that it is 12.3 miles from Lyons. Looks like there is a large dirt parking area at the trailhead. Its on the left side of the road if you are driving from lyons toward Estes.
