Dayhike Castlewood Canyon St. Park.

If you are going to drop out of this hike after Thursday night don't sign up for it!!!

Folks we are going to do the Eastern loop of the Castlewood Canyon St. Pk. I was on it last week. A lot of the wildflowers are up and there is more water down there than I have seen in recent years.

The trail is an easy about five mile loop.

We'll meet and drop off cars at the Hidden Mesa trailhead parking lot. We'll leave that lot at 9:40 am.

Directions to the HM parking lot. It's located about 1/2 mile North of Franktown on CO 83 (Parker Road).

Directions to the park entrance: From Franktown go South five miles on CO 83 (Parker Rd.) The entrance will be on your right. There is a fee of $7 to enter the park.

We'll start the hike at 10:00 am.

No dogs.

I am new to this group and the area, is it too late to attend the hike? If not, is the hidden mesa trailhead at the address provided for Castlewood Canyon State Park? I might prefer to carpool if anyone is near the city of Centennial?

It would be nice to talk about DC with someone who lived around the area as well.

This place is right down the road but I am going cycling instead. Give me a shout or I will do the same. Enjoy the hike as it is really nice down there

Hi Scott, I have several people in my car now meeting in DTC, so we will go straight to the park and meet you at the trailhead.

    May 12, 2013

  • Becky

Stacey, haven't heard back from you as to when you want me to meet you and the light-rail parking lot at I-25 & Colo. Blvd.

    May 11, 2013

    • Stacy

I actually never saw a reply from you! Strange. Anyway, several of us are now meeting at the PNR at the Lincoln Station off I-25 near park Meadows at 9:10 am. I have room for one more. Text me at[masked] if you want to meet there.

BTW directions are a bit convoluted here. There are 2 entrances to the park and it sounds like we're meeting at the East? Directions in the first part say 1/2 mi N of Franktown, then 2nd parts says 5 mi S of Franktown.

    May 11, 2013

    • Annie

The 1/2 north location is for park and ride at 9:40. The 2nd is the main entrance to the park.

I will meet you t the trailhead

Hi Kelcey. Just got back from another MeetUp. Macy's is the closest store with an entrance & sign on Abilene. It's EZ to spot. Can park near the door early in the day. I plan to leave at 8:55, giving 10 minutes leeway per Google for our 9:40 target. I drive a goldenish Chevy Cruze: 363WRN. I'll post a car picture on my profile as soon as I get back to my car for the camera. My cell is 720.409.6021. I actually look like my MeetUp photo (boogabooga) & hike in a floppy green hat.

I live in Washington Park, I-25 and Broadway, 4 blocks south or Alameda. Probably leave here around 8:30. I'm taking several friends, but have room for at least one more.

I would like to carpool. I live in NW Denver but am willing to drive to a p-n-r to meet.

    May 8, 2013

    • Stacy

HI Becky, do you still want to carpool? You can just head down I-25 and meet me off of I-25 and Colorado Blvd. Either at the light rail station parking lot (on Buchtel across street from movie theater), or we can even meet at Colorado & Evans in the Natural Grocers parking lot. Let me know!

      May 11, 2013

  • Kelcey

Athanks for the info Stacy and Tim, I'll post again-also Becky...that'swhat I needed...some street info, cross roads. May 10, 2013

    • Kelcey

Why don't you meet Tim and I at Town Center? I was looking at the map and it is not far from there, as I have been through there a few times...Kelcey

      May 10, 2013

    • Stacy

That's too far out of my way, thanks.

      May 11, 2013

  • Kelcey

Hello...jetting at the Town Center in Aurora sounds good...to car pool. But map quest won't give me miles from there to state park for some reason...anyway..that is better than I thought...antibody want to pick up a ride with me to go to meet at towncenter with Tim is possible if Timisoara still in...I will go south-36 to 70 to aurora...if Tim is still ago...I will check back later tonight to see...thanks...oh yeah...maybe one person in the front...my car is still loaded up...

Kelcey: What I wrenched out of Google was 23.5 miles & 35 minutes. I trust the distance, but Google times are a bit optimistic.

      May 10, 2013

  • Kelcey

Tim, if you want to be car pool I would meet you at the town Center, Aurora...I would come down 36 to 70 as I said, that would be better than the whole way for me and I would appreciate it. so, let me know if that is on...then I will confirm for the trip..it says 15 more spots...so if you can let me know by tomorrow afternoon that would be good :) Going back at your time frame seems to work for me also, hoping we will have finished the hike by then. so, count me as a rider, just need you to confirm...if you still have the space. sounds like a nice little? Hike.

Any elevation gain? Or is the trail almost flat?

    May 10, 2013

  • Stacy

FYI, looked up Hidden Mesa and it looks like it's not far off of Founders Pkwy exit off I-25 in Castle Rock.

    May 9, 2013

  • Kelcey

Hello; is Becky or Stacey wanting to meet to car pool? I can drive to meet-I have never heard of Hidden Mesa....what are your streets Becky and Stacey? ( I have an evening job-I won't be back on till after 9:00 p.m. tonight-work a.m.)-so let me know if any one wants an extra person...I won't be going if I don't car pool some where reasonably north of hike.

    May 9, 2013

    • Stacy

I've never been to Hidden Mesa. Figured I'd just map directions to Franktown and find it on Parker Road. Thanks, Tim, for helping with us looking for Ponderosa High School. Would love to split gas costs and meet up. I'll take I-25 from Colorado Blvd down there. So if you want to meet at the PNR at the light rail station at Colorado Blvd and Buchtel. Just let me know.

Quick points: (1) I also have a State Park Pass and can accommodate 3 others in my car load. (2) I believe the turn for Hidden Mesa Parking lot is a bit over 1.5 miles S of Ponderosa H.S. (Track/Football field is next to Parker Rd and EZ 2 C). That can prep you for your turn. (3) I'm willing to carpool up to 3 folks from the Town Center at Aurora mall (I225 & Alameda). It's not North, but it is way un-South. Let me know if that appeals to you. My only caveat is that I must leave the Castlewood area no later than 2pm so I can make my drum circle. Be healthy all ...Tim

My son is really up for making me happy! He has agreed to doing this hike with me. He is also new to the singles world.

I don't know where Hidden Mesa parking lot is? Is it a park-n-ride?

    May 9, 2013

  • Stacy

FYI, I have a state park pass, so a few people can ride with me from Hidden Mesa and get in free. Bummed that no dogs are allowed on this particular trail!

    May 7, 2013

  • Dan

just remembered I had made a prior commitment...darn!

    May 7, 2013

  • Dan

is there any way to meet near the park and carpool to avoid the $7 fee if someone has a park pass?
