Dayhike Devil's backbone.

Directions to the Thornton PnR: From I-25 and 84th Ave exit 219, head east on 84th Ave to Grant St, turn left on Grant, continue north to park-n-Ride on west side of Grant. Plan on leaving from this park-n-ride at 8:15. Will the first person to arrive here please put your pack on your hood so others can find you. If you plan on meeting at this park-n-ride please put a comment under you RSVP. Thanks.

Directions to the trailhead:

From Denver:

Take 1-25 north to Exit 257B (Highway 34 - Loveland). Take Highway 34 west of Loveland to just past mile marker #88 (4 miles west of the K-Mart). Turn right (north) onto Hidden Valley Drive just east of the old water tank. The trailhead is on your left.

The hike: This is a new hike for us but it's a good one. I did it with the Westmeinester group. It's an out-and-back hike so we can go as far as we want and then turn back. There is one climb on the hike (as far as we went) but it's very short. We'll plan on starting this hike around 9:00 am.

The Hewlett Gulch Fire is still out there, but the weather is helping. Air quality in Fort Collins is good this morning, thanks to rain. http://www.coloradoan.com/article/20120519/NEWS/305190013/Rain-helping-slow-Hewlett-Fire?odyssey=mod_sectionstories\

I'll be at the PnR. Cathie- I'm leaving from the Wash Park area and don't mind driving. Email me @ [masked] to coordinate a ride!

@ Michelle M- I can meet you at the P & R @ Wads and 285. Do you think 7:45 is too early? Are you planning on going to eat after?

    May 18, 2012

If anyone needs a ride or I could catch a ride from down in Southwest Littleton (285 & Wadsworth) let me know. Could leave car at PnR at that intersection or at my apt building right down the street. Few buck for gas either way from me to you or you to me.

Hi Scott - Do you think the fires might be problematic regarding this hike?

    May 17, 2012

  • Chris G

As for the fire, you will be about 30 miles south of the fire area. We have rain in the forecast for the next two days. Doubt if there is a concern for this trip.

Darlene - it's a very easy hike. Hiking boots not required. Sneakers are OK if you don't mind dusty feet. I like my in-between trail shoes for this one.

Mmmm, a picnic sounds yummy. :-)

Do we need to be concerned about the fire in Ft Collins? Im thining smoke depending on if they get control of it and the direction is blowing in. Anyone else concerned?

that sounds like fun I can put some fruit in my cooler and when we get back to our cars we can munch out, I will bring a few folding chairs too. Is it too early for wine, it is 5 oclock somewhere....right?

    May 15, 2012

  • Michelle M.

I'm assuming we'll be there long enough to need to eat. Perhaps we can have a picnic and could all bring something to eat to share? I'll bring some roast chicken. Or some cheese. Or both!!

Or if anyone in my hood is heading to the PNR. :)

I'd love to catch a ride & pay for gas. I live near
Cheesman Park if anyone's heading to the hike from central Denver. Thanks!
