Trail Description

Forest Lakes are accessible from the East Portal Trailhead in the Indian Peaks Wilderness. The first lake occupies a marshy flat below treeline; the second, much larger lake fills a deep bowl at treeline beneath Rollins Pass and the Continental Divide. This area is a great area for viewing the fall colors and this weekend should be a great weekend for the colors to be out.

Address: 4655 Ward Rd., Wheat Ridge

Directions to the park-n-ride: From 44th Ave. & Ward Rd., continue north on Ward Rd. approximately .22 miles, left into the park-n-Ride. We will plan on leaving this park-n-ride at 8:00 am.

Directions to Trailhead

The East Portal Trailhead is located at the end of Tolland Road, an 8.2 mile dirt road west of Highway 72. Tolland Road is located 4.9 miles south of Nederland, Colorado.

From Highway 72, turn west on Tolland Road and Keep Straight until it dead-ends at the Moffat Tunnel. Ignore turnoffs that climb toward the pass.

My friend and I will meet at the trailhead. I think I understand the instructions, but I don't understand where Rollins Pass Road comes into it. From the south on Hwy 93, we are going to take 72/Coal Creek Cyn Road., go south on 119 to Rollinsville and turn right on Tolland Road and go until it ends or where it turns into a fork with one side being E. Ranch Road and E. Portal Road. Is this correct?
