Carpooling is encouraged so that our crowd does not monopolize the Deer Creek Park lot. Wooly Mammoth lot would work well: I am leaving it to you all to coordinate that.
Getting to the Park: from metro Denver travel south on C470 and exit at Kipling. Go south on Kipling and turn onto Ute Ave which goes west. Follow Ute as it makes a sharp turn to the left and drops into Deer Creek canyon. Go right (west) onto Deer Creek Canyon Road. Go a mile or so (pass South Valley Park and Lockheed Martin on your right) to Grizzly Drive where you turn left. Ascend the hill and pass the fire station. Turn right into the Park. The entrance to the Park is hard to see till you are right there.
There are many hike possibilities. My notion is to hike Meadowlark Tr to Plymouth Creek to Plymouth Mtn Tr (upper part) to Homesteader (my favorite in this park) and rejoin Plymouth Creek and then do Red Mesa Loop. If we do all of that it is 7 miles or so and 1500 feet of elevation. I think we will be hiking three or four hours. For those who seek a more modest hike there are plenty of shorter ones to consider.
Bring plenty of water and lunch for you and Moonpies for me.
The weather guess for this hike is cool and showery or something. Dress in layers.
Celebrate his birthday a few weeks late. His actual birthday is October 27th!!!! Come give Bill a BIG hug and hike with him. This will be co-led by Caver Matt and our famous Deb Stanley-Lamkin.
I never charge for my hikes but THIS time. Please bring a moonpie as payment. Made payable to birthday boy!
