Snowshoe Coon Hill

Folks this will be on Sunday the  13th.

Folks bring your snowshoes. They have at least a foot of snow up there.

Directions to the park-n-ride: From 44th Ave. & Ward Rd., continue north on Ward Rd. approximately .22 miles, left into the park-n-Ride. We will plan on leaving this park-n-ride at 8:45 am.

If you are going West on I-70 take the Ward Rd. exit and go straight through the stop light (do not turn left or right) at the bottom and into the PnR.

Directions to the trailhead. Go West on I-70. Headed West, as soon as you exit the Eisenhower tunnel (the very long tunnel just west of exit 216) the very large parking lot will be on your right. Drive right into it. Hiker's parking will be on your right. There are signs marking it.

The 'hike': The first half mile or so is up hill. After the first switchback it gets a lot easier. If we get all the way up onto the ridge we'll run into the Loveland ski lifts. This is an out and back hike (total of five miles at the most) so we can go as far as we like and turn around.

You can bring Fido if you want but there is a lot of snow up there.

Great time! In the absence of our fearless leader, I suppose we needed a horny toad. (Those who have seen "The Outlaw Josey Wales" will probably chuckle at the reference.)

I had fun, the 2 1/2 hour hike was a great workout.
I really enjoyed meeting everyone and as a soon to be newcomer to the Denver area I appreciated the great conversation at lunch.
    I felt very welcomed.

It was a good workout despite not knowing where to go, but the trailblazers led us in a good direction, so the company and workout was good, didn't like frigid cold.

A little confusing at first since the leader was not able to make it. Those of us who braved the bitter cold temps made the best of it, though, and it turned out to be an exhilarating trip!

The seven other people on the hike were wonderful. Cold at minus three degrees kept us from going further and exploring more. I'm not sure we were on Coon Hill and would like to go back this summer to find the trail.

Sorry I won't be going. I just don't have the right clothes for the low temperatures. Very disappointed as I'm eager to use my snowshoes. Next Time.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
