Act I: I should know the dates later in the week. I called today but our request has not been processed yet. They got 900 requests on 12/1.
Act II: This trip will happen early in May. We can't get in before then and I can't send in our request until after Jan. 1.
This is a five-day backpacking trip with two days for travel. It's not an easy trip but it is very doable if you
just make the effort to get in shape. And it's worth it. Day one is long and over 5,000 feet to the bottom (Bright Angle campground). Day two is half way back up into Indian Garden campground. Day three is long (around 10 miles) but mostly level over to one of two campsites. Day four is fairly short and easy over to Hermit Creek campsite. Day five is a climb of just under 4,000 feet back out in around seven miles.
The total cost is your share of transportation whatever that turns out to be. I rented a van last time. One and maybe two nights lodging depending on how early we get out of the canyon. $5 per person per night below the rim ($20). And your share of the permit fee ($2).
Feel free to call me or email me with any questions. [masked]-8077. I do not charge for putting this together. You'd probably pay an outfitter around $1200.
