Kimmy Kazu:

This is why I no longer go on meetup hikes and have gone back to hiking alone, with the dogs, and with friends.
I once missed a hike as my mother was in the hospital and I received nastygrams such as yours below that REALLY REALLY frustrate me.

It is a meetup hiking group, not training for the 100th airborne.

Maybe you should not post hikes if there is so much drama involved.

 Sincerely, B Madden

Although it was a great weekend of hiking. I had some things happen that REALLY REALLY frustrate me as a hike Organizer. Instead of not posting hikes, this is what I will say......

To reiterate my attendance policy: Do not change your RSVP from "YES" to "NO" within hours from the event. If you change your RSVP within 24 hours of the event, I will mark you as a "no show".  If you "no show" on one of my hikes, you will not get preferential attendance on the next event that you "intend" to attend- Since I keep track of this, if you have a "no show" on my hikes, I will let other reliable people go in front of you. That is fair.

In my event descriptions, there is a lot of information: Please! Please read it! If my posting has not included something, you cannot find it on Google, then call me or email me. [masked] or [address removed]

On the 14er/13er trips, I ask that you contact me. If you do not contact me, I will change your RSVP. On high altitude, I will not hike with someone where I do not know their ability, it is not safe. I have had days where I spent all day with a hiker who was ready for the challenge, due to that I don't summit when I could have. Other groups, you sign legal waivers, here I ask for an email or phone conversation.

NONE of my hikes are beginner hikes, so be realistic of your true physical ability. If you cannot keep up with the group. Do not hike with the group. Because everyone then has to wait for you. Also my trips since they are not geared towards beginner or easy( unless rarely specified), could be long trips. DO NOT volunteer to drive a car full of people if you have plans that would make you have to leave. If you have plans, and still would like to attend hike, drive yourself ONLY.

I would love to continue to leads hikes for this group, I have had fun and met TONS of wonderful people. But these things are frustrating and I would like to reduce that. It may sound like I am ranting but that is not my intention. I feel that all my "policy stuff" is common sense and consideration.

If you feel strongly about something, call me. We can chat. Thank you,
