The fine: $525.00
The story: When we did the Grand Canyon a few months ago we had a woman with us named Chris. She has since dropped out of the group. I never knew Chris and she didn't know me. We spoke a few times briefly but never really talked. I have never wronged Chris in any way. After the trip for whatever reason Chris decided to be mean-spirited and contacted the Park Service and told them I had charged a measly $50/person (to help cover a little of my overhead) for organizing and leading the trip into the Canyon. The Park Service contacted me. They sited me for $525.00 and gave me a mandatory court appearance in Salt Lake City. I have paid the fine.
Some of you nice folks have expressed interest in helping me pay the fine. If you want to contribute you can put your contribution into my Paypal account, give it to me on a hike or mail it to 1237 S. Gilbert St, Castle Rock, CO. 80104. I thank you in advance.
If contributions approach the amount of the fine I'll send out another email to stop them. I'm not asking you kind and supportive folks to support me.
I have since talked with the Grand Canyon and they do have a permit I can and will purchase so I can continue to run trips there without running afoul of the Park Service.
I can't thank you fine people enough and I'll gladly try and continue to find and lead great hikes and trips for all of us.
