Re: [hiking-381] New Meetup: Lake Isabelle - Indian Peaks Wilderness

Hey Bob,

Thanks for the info.  I just got an email from the Rangers and, as I knew, big groups require a permit.  The permits are only good for 12 people and they tell me there are no more available for the month of July so I am going to have to cancel it.  We can do Blue Lake instead and get a permit for it but we would have to limit the group to 12.  I need to think about an alternative.

Maybe your ideas could make a good weekday hike.

Susan

Susan:

Unless the sink hole has been fixed, the parking is really bad on the weekend.
We might meet just before the pay station if we are not car pooling.

I would be really tempted to head up to Isabelle glacier then there was the
times I did Pawnee pass and the glacier.

If not the glacier there is a great trail along the lake and part way up to the
glacier that usually has incredible wild flowers.

Announcing a new Meetup for The Longmont Hiking Meetup Group!

What: Lake Isabelle - Indian Peaks Wilderness

When: Sunday, July 11,[masked]:00 AM

Where:
Lyon's Park-and-Ride
SW Corner of 4th & Broadway
Lyons, CO 80540

Let's meet at the Lyons Park & Ride at 10:00am and we'll carpool from there.
Plan on bringing a picnic lunch to have once we get to the lake. We are planning
on hanging out at the lake for about an hour or more so please be prepared for
that...maybe a few frisbees would be fun.

This is an easy hike, about 4.2 miles roundtrip. The elevation gain is about
438' roundtrip.

Yay, Tacoma, dogs are allowed, so feel free to bring them all along.

This is definitely one of our favorite hikes. Lake Isabelle is accessed from the
Long Lake Trailhead. The lake lies near timberline in a dramatic valley,
offering views of high peaks such as Navajo and Apache Peaks.

The Long Lake Trailhead is on the east side of the continental divide in the
Indian Peaks Wilderness.

If you are meeting us at the trailhead...to reach the trailhead parking area,
drive on Colorado Highway 72 to the vicinity of the town of Ward. Just north of
Ward on Highway 72, there is a large sign marking a road leading west to
Brainard Lake. Follow Brainard Lake Road for about 6 miles to Brainard Lake. The
Long Lake Trailhead parking area is accessed from a left-hand turn just past the
lake. Brainard Lake Road may be closed at about the halfway point between
Highway 72 and Brainard Lake if the spring snowfall has not melted. There is an
entrance fee collected for driving into the Brainard Lake area.
