Mt. Tam via Indian Fire trail, Muir Woods, Tourist Club

This one will be somewhere between 16-18 miles with significant uphill including the steep and seemingly endless Indian Fire Trail route up to the East Peak of Mt. Tamalpais. After lunch on the peak we'll make our way down to Muir Woods and back up to the Tourist Club for a beer. After that you only have 2 miles to stumble back down to your car via the Sun Trail and the Dipsea Steps. Feel free to sign up if you can maintain a 3 mph or better pace over this distance and enjoy clambering up steep rocky trails.

  • Hi David, I am unfamiliar with these trails... Do you think this is like ~3000 ft elevation gain? The more the better.

Climbing 2000' in 2 miles on loose rocks is enough to kick anyone's butt.

Tracklog for the hike is at http://files.meetup.com/767090/2013-08-03%2009_08_53%20Day%20e.gpx
Distance and elevation gain were 17.0 miles and approximately 4670 ft. YMMV depending upon what software or web site you use to analyze it.

David, thanks for the hike. There were a lot of trails that were new to me.

A word was missing, does the track have the same general shape as Australia?

So much regret missing this. I get back from caving at 10,000 ft altitude, mountaineering and all in Sequoia/Kings Forest . Everything is fine, then I am walking down the stairs and I fall, sprained my ankle so bad, no broken bones, but very swollen foot (and painful). I am on clutches for 2 weeks. But you, great team of hikers, I'll see you in two Saturdays .')

Hello David, Is it possible for me to join your guys? (I understand I am on the waiting list now). I am from Davis, and hiked in the South Lake Tahoe for a few peaks in the past 2 months. The longest hike I did in one day is 29-30 miles. This is my first time to attend the events in this group. Is 300 Throckmorton Ave, Mill Valley, CA the place for everybody to meet before hiking?
