An East Bay variety pack with Berkeley stairways, Steam trains, San Pablo Reservoir and UC Campus. To put some elevation in it, we'll do the Clairmont Preserve trail uphill to Grizzly Peak and the Inspiration Point trail from San Pablo Reservoir. The plan is to have lunch a the Marina at the San Pablo Reservoir - full disclosure: I have never taken the Inspiration point trail down to the water, so you'll need to be open minded about lunch spots.
The beginning and the end of the hike will include many of the Berkeley Stairways and our route will be, by design, not necessarily straightforward, but, hopefully, it will be interesting.
9:30 is our leaving time
Bring your lunch as there are no shopping opportunities along the route or at the reservoir.
EBMUD permit: A permit is needed because part of the hike is in the East Bay MUD. You can get a permit on line at their site - each permit is good for 4 people https://www.ebmud.com/recreation/trail-use-permits/
3/14/14 Lincoln, Ralph, Sarah, Vicky and I have permits which will cover all of us.
Modified boiler plate disclaimer: Fine print on my hikes: Our pace while moving usually averages around 3mph. We stop for lunch. We regroup at trail junctions, but take no rest stops. If you like to take frequent breaks, or if you need to stop and rest on climbs, these hikes probably aren't for you. If you aren't sure you can keep up, but want to try it, please do. But, out of courtesy to the rest of the group, please bring a map, and volunteer to take a short cut if you find are struggling to keep up.
