Phoenix Lake Loop - Morning Flower Hike

We'll meet at the Phoenix Lake Parking lot and start hiking at 8. We'll do the full loop to Lake Lagunitas and include the flower-FULL Yolanda Trail. Steady and brisk, good ups - done by 11:30.

Unrelated to this hike - Mt. Diablo last weekend was extraordinary....the flowers made the news. It really is a spectacular display because of the delayed rains.

    We counted 53 different varieties; of which I could identify about 49. The only "usual suspect" past his prime was the Hound's Tongue....Otherwise, all were in attendance, perky and in profusion! It was remarkable to still see the Henderson Shooting Stars and the Woodland Stars when the Globe Lillies were in bloom....what a year....but oh boy is the Poison Oak happy....BEWARE!

    Squaw Bush resembles poison oak, but isn't.

      It'd be cool to know all their names! I just took childlike delight in all the primary colors. :-}

    I was on Diablo a week ago Friday on the last rainy day, and I got pictures of at least 8 or 10 different varieties. 'Tis the season, for sure. (Too bad I have to work Wednesday.)
