Meet at Tennessee Valley for a 9:00  DEPARTURE for a fast paced, 14-15 mile hike.

Tentative route is: Tennessee Valley, Tennessee Beach, Coastal Trail, Muir Beach, Owl, lunch at Slide Ranch.  Return via Owl, Heather Cutoff, Redwood Creek, & Miwok.

We will be off trail in a couple of places, so there may be some poison oak to dodge. Consider wearing long pants if you are very allergic.

Water available at Slide Ranch.

As always, all are welcome, but please be prepared for the pace, distance and climbing.

Note, we will DEPART promptly at 9:00.

Fine print on my fast paced hikes: Our pace while moving usually averages around 2 3/4 mph. We stop for lunch, and usually take another short break or two. We regroup at trail junctions, but take few rest stops. If you like to take frequent breaks, or if you need to stop and rest on climbs, these hikes probably aren't for you. On the other hand, if you like hiking lots of hilly miles at a brisk pace, while taking in some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, please join us. If you aren’t sure you can keep up, but want to try it, please do. We won't abandon you. But, out of courtesy to the rest of the group, please bring a map, and volunteer to take a short cut if you find are struggling to keep up.

Hi Sara, one of my favorite short hikes with a lot of elevation gain is to go to mountain home on the south side of mt tam and hike up to east peak. There are several routes you can take for variety. The first part of the hike is on fire roads and then trails leads up to the top. The advantage of this route is that on the way down when it gets darkest you'll be on fire roads again. Elevation gain is around 1500 to 1800 feet, I believe. If this is interesting to you, I can give you more details. I have the

Hi. My name is Sara and I live in Santa Cruz. I'm going to be going to school and living in Corte Madera and San Raphael the next 3 weeks almost 7 days per week and I'm looking for hikes I can do between 6-9pm in which I can get in an 1800 foot or so climb in 5-6 miles so I don't lose my conditioning. I climbed Mt. Whitney as a day hike 2 weeks ago and love the kind of hikes you do but I won't have an entire day off in my area. I've looked for a meetup group in Marin that does hill climbs after work but I haven't found one. Is there one? Can you suggest to me an out and back hike I can do from 6pm to sunset that would get me a good climb to stay conditioned while I am unable to really hike the next 3 weeks. I really appreciate your knowledge and input. Thanks!!

Dear Ralph, thank you for putting me in touch with Edward. Edward, I will be staying three weeks in a private home in San Rafale. My school will be in Corte Madera. So I can hike in either location. I love hill climbs and since I'll only have 2.5-3 hours of daylight I want to climb as much as possible, 1800 feet at least uphill and then downhill in 5 1/2 or so miles would be perfect. Have a safe drive north and I will look forward to hearing from you. My email is [masked] Thank you. Sara

Ps. And on a fire road so I can't get lost would also be ideal. But I will happily work with whatever you can offer me. :-)
