Hi, Unless Joeanne decides to schedule a hike for next weekend, there won't be any listed. Jeff is still nursing his knee, and I'll be doing a long Sierra Club hike on Saturday. If you are interested in the Sierra Club hike, the description is below. I've done the hike with David in the past, and it's a nice route. We go from Tennessee Valley to to the West Peak of Mt. Tam via Muir Woods, and come back via the Coastal View Trail and the Zen Center. The Sierra Club doesn't require reservations - just show up and sign in. A few comments. Most Sierra Club hikes depart at the time listed. Be prepared for a workout. As the description says, it's a 20 mike hike with 5000' of climbing, and David keeps up a fast pace. Hope to see you there. Ralph
May 23 ? Sat ? Hiking Section Tennessee Valley to West Peak 4E. A strenuous 20-mile hike with 5000' of elevation gain at a brisk pace. Cost: Cost: $3 park entrance. Meet: Meet: Tennessee Valley trailhead at 8:30 am. Leader: David Armstrong, [masked] (8-9 pm only), or darmstrong99[at]yahoo.com (preferred).
Most hikes will be between 12 to 15 miles with at least 2,000 feet of climbing.
Most of our regular hikers like a 2.6 mph or faster pace (lead hikers are 3 mph+).
We wait for the group at trail junctions and all are free to hike at their own pace. You should be able to hike at least 2.5mph to fit in with our group.
Group is best suited for experienced hikers or people who are in good to great physical condition and interested in adding some hikes to their fitness routine while enjoying our great outdoors.
Please keep in mind that hikes are proposed by the hike initiators, who are ordinary folks who enjoy the outdoors and wish to share their favorite hikes with others. The hike initiators do not necessarily have special leadership or first-aid training, and are not leaders.
Participants release all initiators and other participants from all liability and each hiker is responsible for their own actions.
Bring at least 2 to 3 quarts of water, lunch and snacks. Walking poles also helpful for the steep hills.
Generally rain cancels a hike. Check the website the morning of the hike to make sure there was no last minute change.
