Midweek Morning Mountain Goat Hike

Rating: Strenuous

Another fun Mountain Goat hike. The idea is to have some hikes that are steep, off trail, fast, strenuous, mini morning adventures.

A good way to know if you're in condition for this is if you can go up and down Atalaya (from the upper parking lot to the top, not the saddle) in 2 hours or less on a clear day. The regular (non-Mountain Goat) is on alternate Wednesdays.

These morning mini-adventures are definitely not for everyone, but they may be for you. We will figure out where we go that morning. It's always fun.

We will meet at 8:00 AM, hike for approximately 2 1/2-3 hours, and try to be back at the cars around 12:00.

For the Mountain Goat hikes, if you haven't hiked with us before, please contact Dave Gold first.

Directions
We will meet on the street that goes INTO the Fort Marcy Complex, NOT the parking FOR the complex. This is so we don't use spaces they need for their patrons. Then we will carpool up somehwere, about a 10-15 minutes drive.

If you look at maps.google.com it will get you close, but doesn't show the entrance road. Artist Road turns into the entrance road to the Fort Marcy Recreational Complex. So coming from downtown, make a left into the complex at the Artist Road light, and park on the side of the entrance road. Dave's cell is[masked] if you're lost or running late. NOTE: If you sign up as Yes, but can't make it PLEASE call me, so we don't wait unnecessarily. Thanks!

Hi Everyone - Great day today as proven by the fact I have a room full of clothes still hanging to dry. Thanks to Dave & Janet for the loaned items. Have posted a bunch of photos - hoping quantity makes up for the lack of quality. Dave - if storage costs on the site, let me know & I'll delete once folks have had a chance to pull any they want to keep. Happy Thanksgiving to all -
    Chris

That was a great morning everyone. Thanks! I uploaded a couple of photos. Many didn't work out due to mitten-vision.

Should we be prepared to either sled or snowshoe Dave, or is this a snowshoe event?

    November 26, 2013

  • Lisa L.

I don't have snowshoes. I do have a sled, however. Do you want me to bring it?

I'm not going to be able to make it after all. I have to be somewhere till 9. If you change plans and go somewhere with less of a drive, let me know and maybe I can meet you

Dave, we went up to aspen vista yesterday and the road was very very slow and icy, with cars off the road etc. Since the ski basin is opening Thrusday, i'm not sure if they will work on the road until Wed nite or Thurs morning. It could take a lot of extra time to get up and down

    Hi all,
Bring snowshoes. If you don't have any, let me know, because I have some extra pairs. I would like to go to the ski area and hike around there. I could bring some sleds if there is interest, and some of us could sled down.

I have a friend coming in from Georgia and and I'm suppose to go down to ABQ with her this day, but I don't know what time. If it's late enough I will be hiking in the a.m., otherwise I will withdraw my RSVP before hand.
