hike Santa Ynez Canyon

Greetings all my next hike will be in Santa Ynez Canyon. The hike is 4 miles in length a there and back type of hike. 800 feet elevation gain/loss. No dogs allowed. To get there take Pacific Coast hwy north to Sunset Bl. Turn right onto Sunset. Go to Palisades Dr.
Turn left on Palisades Dr. Go to Vereda de Montura and turn left. Go to the end of the street and park there. The trail head is there. The hike will be steep in parts particularly in the start to middle where a lot of elevation gain is done. Parking is free on the street. There are signs to along the street to guide you to the trailhead. Hope to see you there Norman

Great wide trail, narrow at times, but still passable. Some rocks.

I want *SO* badly to join in the fun tomorrow, but we have family coming in so I am otherwise engaged...SOON!! Very much looking forward to it...

Do you guys every talk about fauna/flora/geology along the way? I'd definitely love to dig deeper into understanding the amazing universe all around us, and if anyone is game to chat different bits here and there, I am definitely putting it out there that I am highly interested and highly excitable ;D Looking forward!

    Hi Norman

Are the written directions correct, and not the mapped location?

    Thanks

Yes follow the written direction not the map, the address given is a general one used for the state park and nowhere near the trail head.

I would also like to reiterate here that I normally will not cancel a hike until I have looked at the conditions at the trail head. I have in the past had it raining at my doorstep, gotten to the trail head and only had a light mist and gone hiking that day.

Thank youm Norman for clarifying the obvious that all leaders should adhere to. After we left you today, Trailer Cyn was very muddy and somewhat slippery, but the fireroad trail was easily navigatable and all of us had a good time. I am sorry that you did not join us. Youbrought us all together for Santa Ynez. It was a pleasure meeting and hiking with everyone - Orion, Francesca, Lucy, and Andrea. I will see you on the trail. Support the Sierra Club.

Yes Sorry I could not join you, I had car difficulties. ultimately ended up tapping on the starter motor to get my car running again. Car is almost 20 years old and has[masked] miles on. By the time I got it running you guys had been gone several minutes.

The sky was falling this morning and I headed out to the low Mojave Desert, where hiking was excellent today. Tomorrow is the December meeting of the Palm Springs Atheists Meetup. Anyone wanting to join me afterward for a botanizing hike in Tahquitz Canyon, or climbing in Dry Falls (which are not so dry right now), is welcome.

Greetings to all as many of you might have guessed, i canceled the hike for today. I went to the trailhead saw that it was still raining, knew that Santa Ynez Canyon presented a pretty good flash flood danger and decided against it for today. I will schedule this hike for next month month along with a plan b hike just in case.

I take my beautiful fun dog on my hikes...sorry can't attend

Can't go hiking without my dogs. They need it even more than I.
I understand it is a state park. Would love to go on a hike where a native plant expert will be along. I know many of the native plants, but not all. Are many of you interested in coming up north here? I had suggested a hike to Fish Creek. It is off of Templin Hwy. north of Castaic. Round trip can be 7 miles. It depends on how far you want to go. We have many photos from there we could share.

By the way, my dogs are sweet. They just want to run. My male is not neutered, though, so I have to watch him if he's around another male. I'm not opposed to leashing him if that's an issue.

    Anyone have a Vizsla?

    Willi

Hello Ellie yes pack a lunch, we should be done by Noon, you can then stop on PCH and have lunch on the beach. It is 2 miles there and 2 miles back in terms of distance.
