Weekly Sunday Walk - Laurier Park & Jeffrey's

On this walk, we will cover a loop through the river valley and nearby neighbourhoods that takes us to Jeffrey's for a coffee and snack break along the way. There are several route options, so we'll try a different one each time we repeat from this starting point. Most of the options are fairly flat, with a single ascent from the river valley to the neighbourhood around Jeffrey's.

The walk will proceed regardless of weather conditions, so be sure to come equipped appropriately, including a water bottle or thermos for hydration, a snack for energy, and good, sturdy outdoor footwear.

Our meeting location will be in the parking lot for the Valley Zoo, off Buena Vista Road (which you can reach from the traffic circle at 142nd Street & 87th Avenue). We will be in the near corner of the lot, closest to the turnoff from Buena Vista Road, farthest from the entrance to the Zoo.

We will meet at 1:15 PM and start our walk at 1:30.

I was my first Sunday walk with the group, and it was a real treat. I loved the people, and the park, and Jeffrey's. Thank you for organising it.

Hi Bob, I might be interested in attending. I'm wondering about the condition of the trails. Will I be OK with ankle-high boots with extra grips in case it's icy?

      Hi Sheri,
It's a good idea to bring metal ice grips for your boots in the winter, as trails and city sidewalks can become icy. Ankle-high boots will almost always be suitable, unless there has been a recent snowfalll of 10cm or more in the past few days. When the snow is deep, I use gaiters with my ankle-height boots.
