I've been thinking of doing the NCT / MRT loop sometime this summer.
All 21 miles, and doing it in 1 day.
BECAUSE OF THE MILES WE WILL BE HIKING ON 1 DAY, THIS WILL BE A STRENUOUS AND DEMANDING HIKE, AND IT WOULD NOT BE A HIKE FOR BEGINNERS OR INEXPERIENCED HIKERS.
Start at Red Bridge early Saturday morning,,,maybe 6:00am.
Head NORTH and hike the NCT side first, early in the day, before it gets too warm, where there is a limited water supply.
Cross the Suspension Bridge around NOON, then head SOUTH and hike the MRT side in the afternoon, when we may need more water access.
Take only a light day pack - water / filtration, snacks, lunch - - - enough food (and ibuprofen) for roughly an 11-12 hour day hike.
Return to car 6:00-8:00pm.
Set up camp somewhere for the night...maybe backcountry in the Manistee National Forest, along the Manistee River, or in one of the campgrounds there (Seaton Creek).
Return for home on Sunday when we want to, no rush.
Who is up for the challenge?
