Day Hike Pigeon Creek Park trail system

Pigeon Creek Park is conveniently located between Grand Rapids, Holland and Muskegon. It is roughly 10 miles NE of Holland, close to 120th Ave and Fillmore St.

With 10 miles of looped trails to hike, we can plan many different routes.
Bring water and snacks, and maybe a thermos of coffee or hot chocolate for an after-hike warmup by the Lodge.

Tucked away in the middle of the county, this park offers a quiet retreat for the outdoor enthusiast. Pigeon Creek Park is 282 acres with another 130 adjacent acres of County Open Space land.

Over 10 miles of trails wind through old pine plantations, mature deciduous forests and through bottomland forests along the Pigeon River.

A map of the park trails, with directions, can be found here:

Come enjoy what should be a nice afternoon hike, and still get home in time for Eagles vs. Cowboys on Sunday Night Football.

Live near Lake Michigan so going to take a walk on the beach, since you don't too many days this time of year to walk the beach. See you next time and have a great day.

Did I miss the info about the miles of this hike? Walking for 3 hours? 4? Will there be options for doing one or more sections of the trail?

    November 7, 2012

    • Brad

There are about 10 miles of trails. I have put together a route that will hit about 9 of the miles without doubling back

      November 7, 2012

    • Brad

I expect the route can be finished in about 3 hours.

    Hi Sharon, and other hikers,

Would you be interested in carpooling? I would just like to go for the day, coming back on the same day.

This Park is 3 miles EAST of US 31 on Stanton Road, between Holland and Grand Haven.

I live close to Lake Michigan Drive. If someone can meet me at the Meijer store on Wilson, that would be more convenient. I think it would be out of way for you, Pete, but if you don't mind, I would be happy to carpool with you to go over there from Meijer on Wilson. I like to carpool with someone, because if I could not find the group, I have at least one person to hike with. It also gives me more incentive not to bail out the last second. Let me know, if anyone is interested in meeting at Meijer store on Wilson at 1:00 p.m.

Is hiking going to be a problem if the trails are open for cross country skiing?
You can tell I’m hoping for lots of snow this winter.

    October 29, 2012

    • Brad

Hi Jeff, and thanks for the question. Hiking is not permitted on groomed x-ski trails, and there are a lot of trails that are not groomed. That will obviously be determined by how much snowfall we get by then, but we typically don't get much accumulation by early December.

For those a bit more adventurous, bring a headlamp, or a small flashlight. We can do a night hike after it gets dark.

Layered clothing for the day's weather, comfortable boots, a handful of snacks (granola bar, nuts, trail mix, apple, etc), a bottle of water, and maybe a thermos of your favorite hot drink. If you want to do a short hike after it gets dark, bring a small flashlight or headlamp. Snowshoes are allowed on the trails, but will there be enough snow then?

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
