Announcing a new Meetup for Wild Wild West Hardcore Slowpoke River Canyon Hikers!
What: Bridge to Nowhere (and Beyond?)
When: October 17,[masked]:30 AM
NW corner of Azusa and 9th St.
Azusa, CA 91702
10 mile (roundtrip), 1000 ft. gain hike from the East Fork Ranger Station to the Bridge to Nowhere. IF the group is up for it we will go about a mile past the bridge into the East Fork Narrows. Slowpoke paced hike along the wild and beautiful East Fork of the San Gabriel River through the Sheep Mountain Wilderness area. Some boulder hopping, rock scrambling, and 30+ stream crossings. The hike will take 7- 9 hours, depending on how far we go (including a few short breaks and a long lunch break). It takes about 30 minutes to drive to the trailhead from the rideshare point we are meeting at in Azusa (directions below).
Note: You MAY get WET! This is a challenging hike mainly because it is long- you will need energy!
If you think you might want to go faster than the leader and stray from the group, please don't sign up for this hike. For social and safety reasons I would like the group to stay together. Slowpokes only!
The last hour or so of the hike MAY be in the DARK!!! (the beginning and end of the hike is a fairly easy trail, though). We will probably make it out before dark, but IF YOU DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE HIKING IN THE DARK PLEASE DON'T SIGN UP FOR THIS HIKE! If you have someplace you need to be at a certain time or something to do after the hike that requires energy- please do not sign up for this hike.
BRING: At least 2 quarts water, lunch, warm clothes!!, hiking shoes or boots that can get wet, flashlight or headlamp, raincoat?
We may go out to eat after the hike.
RAIN DOES NOT CANCEL! (That's what raincoats are for).
You will need an ADVENTURE PASS if you plan on driving to the trailhead from the rideshare point. They can be purchased from Sport Chalet or REI or any ranger station. There is a booth to buy them at in Azusa, but you can't always depend on it being open.
Directions to the RIDESHARE POINT in Azusa:
from the westside: 105 or 10 east, 605 north, 210 east, exit at Azusa Av. Go north (left) toward the mountains. Pass Foothill Bl. Turn left onto 9th St. and park as close to Azusa Av. as you can. We may leave some cars there or we may go from there to the ranger station and park. The market that used to be there is now closed and I'm not sure what is there now (I'll find out before the hike and let you know).
from the valley: 118 east, 210 east, then follow directions above.
