I will know more about the hike tomorrow around 4 or 5:00 tonight. A member of our group is going up to the East Fork today to check the area out.....he will give me an update. I also spoke with Bungee America. So far they are still planning on hiking in to jump tomorrow, but they also have someone who is scouting the area today. I will check in with them later today.
The Forest Service recommends that no one go in the area, but I'm not sure if they just say that for liability reasons. They don't actually do much hiking. The roads will be open.
Of course, there will be tons of water up there.....if you don't like getting wet you should not go. I won't be hiking if it is UNSAFE, but I don't mind getting wet. It is not supposed to rain tomorrow.
Stay tuned for an update later today................
It's all about enjoying the wilderness! Hiking in the local canyons- mostly in the San Gabriel Mountains. All hikes will be along a stream in a canyon and at a very slow pace with lots of breaks. All hikes will be between 5-12 hours long, usually around 9 hours. The difficulty level is intermediate, but beginners are welcome if they are in good shape and have an attitude of adventure! Safety always comes first, of course.
It's recommended (but not required) that you bring the TEN ESSENTIALS on all hikes. 10 ESSENTIALS: To find your way: 1. Flashlight 2. Map of the area 3. Compass For your protection: 4. Sunglasses 5. Extra food and water 6. Extra clothing For emergencies: 7. Waterproof matches 8. Candle or fire starter 9. Pocketknife 10.First-aid kit
