Announcing a new Meetup for Wild Wild West Hardcore Slowpoke River Canyon Hikers!
What: Alison Gulch
When: Saturday, March 6,[masked]:00 AM
NW corner of Azusa and Foothill Bl.
Azusa, CA 91702
This is an intermediate level hike at a slowpoke pace (no beginners or tigers please).
9 miles rt 1000 ft. altitude gain (very gradual uphill going in), VERY VERY SLOW paced hike along the East Fork of the San Gabriel River and then into Alison Gulch. Like the Bridge to Nowhere, this hike starts at the East Fork Ranger Station (above Azusa), continues along the river and past Swan Rock. There are several stream crossings- you WILL get wet! Some crossings may be 2-3 feet deep and a little swift (still safe and do-able though. Safety first!). Instead of going further north to the bridge, we will hang a right and go east soon after Swan Rock- this is Alison Gulch. We will be along a stream in Alison Gulch, although there won't be near as much water in there as there is on the East Fork. Eventually we will come to an 80' waterfall and won't be able to go any further. It's more shady than going to the Bridge. Very few people go up Alison Gulch, so it's very wild and scenic. Total hike time (with breaks)(not including driving time from the rideshare to the trail head) is roughly 7-8 hours. If you have to be somewhere after the hike, please do not come! If you don't want to go at a VERY SLOWPOKE pace, please don't come!
You can see pictures of this hike in the "photos" section of this meetup site.
Bring 2 quarts water, lunch, shoes that can get wet, and WARM CLOTHES. You may want to bring dry clothes to change into after the hike. You will need an Adventure Pass if you are driving to the trail head.
We may go out to eat afterward.
