Tens of thousands of Snow Geese flock to Fir Island, Washington during the late fall and stay through the winter. The first time you stand in the jet wash of 10,000 snow geese simultaneously bursting into flight, the hair will stand up on the back of your neck, a shiver will go down your spine and your eyes will water. We'll drive up to Fir Island in search of the flock, staying to photograph the snow geese and other wintering birds we find along the way, such as trumpeter swans and bald eagles.
-As usual with this group's dayhikes, bring enough food to last you through evening and a flashlight or headlamp as we often stay on location to shoot under evening golden light (assuming partly cloudy or clearer skies).
-Please check the weather and bring appropriate winter/rain clothing.
-Fido and the geese don't mix, so please leave your dog at home for this event.
-There will be a 15 minute courtesy wait at the park n ride; be prepared to split traveling costs with your carpool.
