Fast-paced two/four/six miles night hike at Highbanks

NEW TIME: 6:00 instead of 5:30 (it is still light out) - Due to the park closing at 8pm, the last loop may be shortened or canceled or be insanely fast :-)!

We will do the south loop first (see below), go by our cars for the 2-milers and possibly pick up late people (should be there between 6:40-6:50 depending on conditions), then go the north loop and come back to the cars again for the 4-milers (people who want to do 4 miles), and then re-do the south loop for the 6-milers!

Hikers with smartphones are encouraged to keep track of where they are during the hike with an application like runtastic (I use if on my android phone, and it is pretty nice)!

A FLASHLIGHT (or your smartphone flashlight) is useful to have (although we rarely use flashlights :-) )!

Pace: jack-rabbit rate (Thanks Doug)[masked] miles/hour.

Please join us only if you feel comfortable with this speed and these settings! Otherwise, make sure you have a map of the park and a GPS-smartphone.

We will be leaving promptly 5 minutes after the announced time so please plan to come early!

If you happen to come late, you can wait in the car, and we should be back there for the second loop and third loop (see above too).

Sorry; no dogs are allowed due to park regulations.

Here is the starting location in google maps (the center of this map is where we will be meeting):

In words: enter Highbanks Metro Park (from route 23), drive past the nature center, turn left, drive maybe a quarter of a mile, and park at the 3rd parking lot you see (the one with playground and toilets)!

Just for info we will be going on these trails (in sequence):

FIRST AND THIRD LOOP: Dripping rock, Overlook, Dripping rock, Oak coves,

SECOND LOOP: Dripping Rock, Oak coves

Weather issues: I will try to cancel the meeting around 1-3 hours earlier and I will send an email if there will be heavy rain or thunderstorms! If it is light rain, we will keep it up and just carry a raincoat (or an umbrella??? )!

Shoes, clothes: just wear *comfortable* hiking (or walking) shoes and comfortable clothes. It can get pretty cold, so make sure you dress for the weather!

My cell phone: I usually email my phone number to the members of the group a few hours (3?) before the hike just in case anyone is lost. Please save it and use it if anyone has any trouble during the hike. I will charge you 40 cents per text message (my get-rich-quick scheme)!

    Unless it's not above 40 degrees. That's my cut-off. :)

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
