First Day of Fall: Hocking Hills Hike

  • Old Man's Cave

19852 State Route 664, Logan, OH (map)

    39.449579 -82.517589

  • This is the first day of Fall. What better way to celebrate than hiking one of the best state parks in Ohio.

I'm planning a 6 mile hike. We will meet at Old Man's Cave. We'll hike down and see all our favorites: The Upper and Lower Falls, The Devil's Bathtub, The Face, and the Cave. We'll hike the Lower Gorge Trail to Cedar Falls. We'll take a short break, snap some amazing pictures, then hike the Upper Rim Trail back to OMC.
    Who's with me?

Carpool Info: Kaplan College (2745 Winchester Pike, Columbus, OH).  Meet at 8:45, leave no later than 9 AM.

Campers! The campsite is officially available at 3:00. Yes, we are still on. I plan on being there about 2:00. Once set up, we will go ahead and go thru Old Mans Cave for a shirt hike. The water should be running strong! Later after dinner the stars will be bright and plentyful in the clear night sky.
My cell is 746four zero 75, call me if u have questions. See you there.

Mike sent out an email saying the hike was cancelled, but the camping was still on. I checked the weather and it will be raining into early afternoon now, so I won't be driving down to camp in the rain. Maybe another weekend. If Darrin dropped some cash on reserving the group campground I will reimburse him on the next hike. Was really looking forward to this, but it didn't work out. Hope to try again soon.

That stinks. Hopefully we can reschedule soon. There will be a lot more fall color in a couple of weeks.

I'm not crazy about hiking 6miles in the rain. I hope it clears up, but I'm going to cancel. Any chance u will do this hike again? Soon?

Watching series on national parks and the guy described it as when we enter nature we are no longer feeling a master of the world but rather a part of it. Thought I'd share I really liked it because I feel that deep connection as I'm sure many of you all do too!

So far I have 9 folks camping. Ought to be a great evening! Remember the campsite will hold 20 (legally) so bring your bag and some food, jump in a tent when you get tired, and enjoy the morning air in Hocking Hills.
The park has shower houses nearby. Each site has a fire ring (I have the wood), multiple tent locations, and parking for 10 cars over night.
Everyone needs to bring their own sleeping bag, flashlight, and food to eat and share. We have several spots in tents so don't be shy. Folding chairs will be nice. Guitar, anyone???

For those that want, please come over after the hike stay for dinner before heading home.

Campsite is G-1 at Hocking Hills State Park.

    Thanks!

Ok, everyone interested in camping.... I have Group Camping G-1 for the evening of Sept.21. The site holds 20 people so don't be shy. I will work with Mike and set up an evening hike, then after breakfast and strike those that want can go with me for a late morning hike before heading home. There are many locations in Hocking Hills, so suggestions are welcome. Let me know if you are a novice and I can help. This should be a good event for a first timer. And yes there is a bath house and showers.
Let me know if you will be staying.

There are 2 group campsites available for Saturday night, however w both are full on Friday. Room for 20 people & 10 cars. $40 for the night. I am willing to set it up if we can get at least 6 that want to stay over. I have large cabin tent that can hold that many. Let me know. Breakfast in the woods is GREAT!

I would like to sign up for the camping. Besides tent, sleeping bag, ground pad, are there any other things we really need for this? Will we have a nice big fire to cook dinner on? I'll bring the marshmellows!

Steven, I will be sending out details this weekend on the camping opportunity. For now, the only other thing you need is whatever food you want to bring / cook / share. I will be bringing wood for a campfire and two cook stoves if anyone wants to use them. Easy meals or meals cooked on the fire would be great. There will be smores for all! If anyone has extra tent space (I have 4 spots) let me know by direct e-mail so I can get a count on spaces vs heads. Bring flashlights, guitars, funny stories, ghost stories, relax and enjoy the great out-of-doors for the evening. For those that can not camp, come on over for a while after the hike and sit a spell (oh, yeh, bring chairs).
