Fall Foliage Hike at John Bryan and Clifton Gorge

  • John Bryan State Park

    3790 OH-370, Yellow Springs , OH (map)

  • Lower Picnic Area - Go past the campground and keep going straight - down the big hill to lower parking lot.
  • *** Bob, who lives close to the trail will be leading this hike.  Bob hikes here 3-4 times per week and is very familiar with all the trails in the park.  I hope you all enjoy the hike, I will be there in spirit!  As soon as the foot heals, I will be back at it and ready to hike with you all again!  Thanks,  John Youker***

Who's ready for Hike-tober?  This week, we we are going to one of my favorite parks for the fall, John Bryan and Clifton Gorge.

If you haven't been to John Bryan, this is the time to go. Bring your camera. The scenery and the foliage will be amazing. We'll meet at the Lower Picnic Area. There's a great choice of scenic trails that run along the Little Miami River. I'm expecting about a 7 mile rigorous (but not strenuous) hike. We will hike through John Bryan and into Clifton Gorge.

Afterward we can go into Yellow Springs and enjoy some ice cream at Young's Dairy.

I just checked with Bob, our local host for the hike, and he tells me it's raining pretty hard right now. With that plus the unfavorable forecast, we are calling off today's hike.

I missed the Clifton hike last Spring, and unfortunately I have to miss it again tomorrow. Work. Bummer.

Hi folks, I wanted to see how many people are interested in the carpool. I personally would rather just go straight there, but as co-host for the event I want to ensure that everyone has a good hike so I can be at the carpool to coordinate if needed. Who's planning to carpool?

    October 3, 2013

    • Aaron

Beth and Nandini, if you don't mind I will meet the group at the park rather than carpool.

Hi John sorry to hear about your foot. I live right by the park and hike here 3-4 times per week. I know the trails very well and can fill in for you if needed. I would meet the group @ the lower lot. Let me know, Bob

Bob - is there another name for the lower lot? I recall having a hard time finding a lot once in the park so any pointers would be great. Thanks

Laura, Go into the park, pass the campground. Where most people would turn LEFT to go to the ORTON lot, you go straight. you will immediately begin going down a large hill that curves to the left and then the right. It is the only way to go if you do not turn left towards the ORTON lot. It dead ends in the lower lot. Hope this helps.

Ok gang. Bad news from your hike leader, John. I have ruptured my plantar fascia in my left foot, which means I tore the tendon across my heal and now I am out for about 6 weeks. Sooooooo, if anyone is able to lead this hike, that would be great! Let us know. it is an EASY hike and not able to get lost..... I can give GREAT directions to someone who thinks they know the park well. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
