Fast-paced no-stops two/five/six miles hike at Highbanks.

(Note: I added the exact coordinates in "Location").

This is a weekly Thursday after-work hike.

We will do the south loop first (see below), go by our cars for the 2-milers and possibly pick up late people (should be there in about 40-50 minutes), then go the north loop and come back to the cars again for the 5-milers (people who want to do 5 miles), and then re-do part of the south loop for the 6-milers!

Hikers with smartphones are encouraged to keep track of where they are during the hike with an application like "Google My Tracks" or Runtastic (I used both on my android phone, and they are pretty nice - I currently use My Tracks)!

WINTER: Pace: approx 3.5 miles/hour. We will keep it safe ... so if it is slippery we will slow down and do as much as we can.

Bring flashlights (we may or may not need them, but it is useful to have them with us just in case).

Please join us only if you feel comfortable with this speed and these settings! Otherwise, make sure you have a map of the park and a GPS-smartphone.

We will be leaving promptly 5 minutes after the announced time so please plan to come early!

If you happen to come late, you can wait in the car, and we should be back there for the second loop and third loop (see above too).

Sorry; no dogs are allowed due to park regulations.

Directions: If you have the google-maps-nagivation app just use the "location" above as the destination. In words: enter Highbanks Metro Park (from route 23), drive past the nature center, turn left, drive maybe a quarter of a mile, and park at the 3rd parking lot you see (the one with playground and toilets)!

Just for info we will be going on these trails (in sequence) but the third part of the route may be changed on a whim :-) :

FIRST AND THIRD LOOP: Dripping rock, Overlook, Dripping rock, Oak coves,

SECOND LOOP: Dripping Rock, Oak coves

Weather issues: I will try to cancel the meeting around 1-3 hours earlier and I will send an email if there will be heavy rain or thunderstorms! If it is light rain, we will keep it up and just carry a raincoat (or an umbrella if appropriate)!

Shoes, clothes: just wear *comfortable* hiking (or walking) shoes and comfortable clothes. In the winter, It can get pretty cold, so make sure you dress for the weather!

My cell phone: I usually email my phone number to the members of the group a few hours (3?) before the hike just in case anyone is lost. Please save it and use it if anyone has any trouble during the hike. If I do not, and you do want to be able to contact me, please email me through this web page, and I will email you my cell phone number.

ADDENDUM: Here is the map of the old 7-mile hike in google maps hiking directions - The new 6-mile hike is a bit different but I keep it here for reference.

A little mud here and there but glad I made it. Needed a kickstart to warmer weather hiking.

Couldn't tell you all from the rest of the tourists and way to crowded for my tastes anyway.

I know I'll be horribly slow, so I'm a maybe and only doing half.

I might join you for a couple of miles, but I haven't even taken a walk yet since knee surgery in Dec. I'm ready to get out for a little hike and fresh air.

Weather looks nice around 58F ... and cloudy ... and for the first time in 4 months it will be daylight and not-icy ... where are the hikers? come out of your hibernation.
