We will hike Batelle Darby Creek Metro Park. We'll hike south along Big Darby Creek, hit the Ancient Trail loop and then do the Terrace Trail loop, and make our way back to Cedar Ridge. Overall, about 6 miles of hiking.
This is a fitness hike, so we keep moving at a good speed (approaching 4 miles per hour).
Please join us only if you feel comfortable with a fast speed! Otherwise, make sure you have a map of the park and a GPS-smartphone just in case.
If anyone of you wants to lead a dinner gathering afterwards, please announce a suggested place before we start the meetup, and call the restaurant for reservations as needed. I usually do not go for dinner after the hike but many hikers seem to like having that option.
Hikers with smartphones are encouraged to keep track of location with an application like "Google My Tracks".
We will be leaving promptly 5 minutes after the announced time so please plan to come early!
Directions: If you have the google-maps-nagivation app, just use the "meetup location" above as the destination. For those who like written directions: From I-270, take the West Broad Street (U.S. 40) exit west. Go about 5 miles on Broad Street and turn left on Darby Creek Drive. Main entrance is about 3 miles on the right.
Weather issues: I will try to cancel the meeting around 1-3 hours earlier and I will send an email if there will be heavy rain or thunderstorms! If it is light rain, we will keep it up and just carry a raincoat (or an umbrella if appropriate)!
Shoes, clothes: just wear *comfortable* hiking (or walking) shoes and comfortable clothes. In the winter, It can get pretty cold, so make sure you dress for the weather!
My cell phone: I usually email my phone number to the members of the group a few hours (3?) before the hike just in case anyone is lost. Please save it and use it if anyone has any trouble during the hike. If I do not, and you do want to be able to contact me, please email me through this web page, and I will email you my cell phone number.
