We began this year with the goal of making 2011 the best year for HikeOhio ever. I think we succeeded. We hit some great Metro parks like Highbanks, Slate Run and Clear Creek. We hiked some amazing A. W.Marion, Great Seal, John Bryan and Mohican. We saw the ice in Hocking Hills, then returned in the fall to hike Old Man's Cave and Conkle's Hollow. This is the year we expanded our activities beyond hiking. From frisbee golf to bowling, snow tubing to paintball. We toured Franklin Park Conservatory, Ohio Caverns and even the haunted Moonville Tunnel. We got our arts on with summer concerts and Ballet Met at the Scioto Mile, Jazz at the Topiary Park, and a tour of the Museum of Art. This summer we took a five week Ice Cream Tour of Columbus. And never forget 2011 is the year HikeOhio gave back, supporting the Special Olympics and the Komen Foundation through the Polar Bear Plunge and Race for the Cure.
We finish 2011 with three hikes, and three X-mas events: Franklin Park, Clifton Mill and Wildlights at the Zoo. Then we begin with the goal of making 2012 the best year for HikeOhio ever.
We began this group in the summer of 2008. Since then we have grown to 1374 members and 423 Facebook fans. Thanks to our founder Kim who retired as head organizer this year and Phil, Joyce and Carrie who have been doing an amazing job as assistant organizers. And of course I want to thank you, hikers. If you weren't coming out for our events, this group would not exist.
Check out some of the event we have coming up and let's make 2012 the best year for HikeOhio ever.
Have a great holiday season, and I'll see you on the trails.
