New Haven Hikers' Winter Walk at Chatfield Hollow

Hi folks, Join us for a friendly winter walk at a great park just outside of New Haven County! WHEN AND WHERE: This Meetup will take place at Chatfield Hollow, which is a state park located in Killingworth, CT. Meet at the outer parking area between 11:55 and 12:00; begin walking by 12:05. PLAN: We will make a loop through the woods as well as walk on the road for a bit, to catch sites such as a covered bridge and an old water wheel. COST: Please contribute one dollar towards the monthly fee that is charged by the Meetup Website. Please bring any contributions with you on the day of the hike. Please donate no more than $12 per year -- you keep track. DIRECTIONS: From I-95: take Exit 63, and follow Route 81 north to Route 80 west. Drive about 1.2 miles west on Route 80 and look for park entrance on your right (it comes up quick).
Google map / Directions to park PARKING NOTE: We should all be able to park in the outer parking area (visible from the road), and walk in together.
Chatfield Hollow State Park TRAIL MAPS may be available at the entrance, or you can print one out from the park website, if you'd like to get to know the park.

You see some exotic wildlife in the snow on these hikes.

I have gone there in winter to snowshoe and the outer lot is plowed. I haven't been out there, but he little hiker lot in Guilford at Cockaponset and opposite Guilford's Timberlands was plowed yesterday.

Thank you Janet. That is what I suspected. Bryan, we don't drive into the park but leave our cars in the outer lot and I assume it will be plowed. I am not 100% positive, but I too will be taking the risk coming from NH. Cross your fingers everybody. I hike at West Rock (another State park) and they do plow the lot there, so that is what I am going on. If you are opposed to WALKING in the snow, that is another story and I recommend you stay home! Haha. See you tomorrow. Sarah (organizer)

They close the road for the season. The small parking area in the front should be open, but the road that rings the lake will not be plowed or accessible by vehicle. It is a good spot to snowshoe or cross country ski.

It seems that Meetup has removed the "Maybe" option with respect to RSVPs. Please just RSVP "Yes" if you think you might join us. You can write "Maybe" in the Comment field if you wish. Thanks everybody! Sarah (Organizer)
