New Haven Hikers' Walk at Chatfield Hollow

Hi folks,

Join us for a friendly walk at a great park just outside of New Haven County!

WHEN AND WHERE: This Meetup will take place at Chatfield Hollow, which is a state park located in Killingworth, CT. Meet at the outer parking area at 9:55 or 10:00 and head out at five after.

PLAN: We will make a loop through the woods as well as walk on the road for a bit, to catch sites such as a covered bridge and an old water wheel.

COST: Please contribute one dollar towards the monthly fee that is charged by the Meetup Website.

DIRECTIONS: From I-95: take Exit 63, and follow Route 81 north to Route 80 west. Drive about 1.2 miles west on Route 80 and look for park entrance on your right (it comes up quick). Google map / Directions to park

PARKING NOTE: We should all be able to park in the outer parking area (visible from the road), and walk in together.

TRAIL MAPS may be available at the entrance, or you can print one out from the park website, if you'd like to get to know the park for future visits.

As always, everyone(most) were tolerant of my limited abilities. Now I know why it's a good idea to read the trail maps before hand! :>) Blessings to all of you.

I didn't know anyone there. When I introduced myself they were very unfriendly. I had got there 15 minutes early and needed to use the restroom. They told me they would wait while I went into the park. I went & came right back, but they left without me.
I was very disapoointed. I thought these things were for people like myself who are looking for other people to share events with. Am I wrong?

    Cheryll,
tea tree oil and Jewelweed ( grows near poison ivy and/or Nettle) Sarah could probably point it out for you on the hike, aloe vera gel (from a leaf, honestly it doesn't grow out of the tube you buy in the store, god knows what your getting lol!) and goldenseal I am not a doctor, this is what I have heard works.
Best is to wash cloths and shoes after walk and wear long pants, I know common sense, sometimes I need that, more often than I would like to admit lol!

    Suganthi,
Nettle has many minerals, vitamins and are 40% protein, with other nutrients. it is to be taken every day before allergy season and during. here is a good write up on it.http://www.herballegacy.com/Vance_Medicinal.html
I also encourage the netti pot good in morning and after exposure.

    Hi Mary,
I would recommend using some castor oil, aloe vera or coconut oil for that.

I think you should invest in a netti pot. I have been a life long suffer of hayfever etc, this is my first year using the netti pot and it has been a blessing.

Thanks Glenn. I didn't have any symptoms during the hike or even immediately after. It was only the day after that I started feeling sick. Do you take these before-hand?

    Hello Glenn,
Do you know of anything for full stage poison ivy/sumac?

    June 5, 2012

  • Glenn ".

Quercetin and Nettle, and bring some lavender, I use a mixture of 12 essential oils called Panic button by Auria Cacia stops any attack. The most important cleansing the body. I am not a doctor and I am not giving medical advice, lol.

    Hi Sarah and others,
I went to Chatfield Hollow during memorial day and came down with hay fever. I would like to join this hike, but am worried about exposure to some allergen. Appreciate any words of advice. I took Claritin which seemed to help.
