Clark Creek Hike

Hiking in August in the south, is she crazy?!? Relax, we will be hiking the creek bed so there will be plenty of shade and cool creek water. Yes this is the one with the waterfalls. There is a pinic area at the trail head.

Carpool from Slidell leaves Wine Market Parking lot promptly at 8:00am

Had a great time. The Clark Creek Hike was mine & my Husbands first adventure with the group, and we were not disappointed. Everyone was warm, friendly, and open to it's new Members. The area was beautiful. Will be attending more adventures with the group.

Excellent adventure! We did only half of the circuit but because we got lost we did it twice. Making new friends made it fun.

Clark Creek didn't disappoint! Climbing the sheer cliff and helping the smaller dogs that got hung up on the river rocks added some elements of danger and excitement! Great group!

No problem with dogs we already have at least one coming. if pup doesn't get along with other dogs you will have to leash him.

    August 10, 2012

  • Casey T.

Does anyone have an issue with dogs? I generally make the hike with a pup in tow, though I'm happy to leash him or leave him behind if necessary. Also, for the uninitiated, I strongly recommend a god bug spray with deet. There are quite a few ticks in the area if you get off the improved trails.

Also, if anyone is spending the night or wants to show up early, it's a great place to see the Perseid meteor shower this weekend

Ok, well I'll probably just arrive early and wait. Really looking forward to it!

    August 7, 2012

  • Kelly S.

Jonas, it will probably be[masked]am all depending on how long the pit stop at the Cheveron gas station takes. When I send out Friday's e-mail it will have my cell phone number.

What time are y'all expecting to get to the trailhead? I'll be coming from the other direction (McComb MS area).

Wine Market is at 2051 Gause Blvd E, Slidell, LA

  • Judy

This is my first hike with the group. Can someone give me the address of the wine store where we will meet that morning?

    August 2, 2012

  • Jonas

We were there at the beginning of June. There were some places that had been repaired, others not so much. It very greatly depends on where you enter and exit. On the route we took missing stairs were a minor inconvenience compared to the hike itself. But we strayed from the beaten path a bit. :-)

    July 25, 2012

  • Donna

Kelly you might want to check with parks, we were there in May and the stairs 'out' of the creek bed were basically washed out underneath.. It was quite a task for some to make it out of the creek bed :-/

I'd love to go, if I can get off work that day I'll join.

    July 24, 2012

  • Kelly S.

@Suzette- The length of time spent on the hike is up to you. You can stop at any time. If you include drive time from Slidell your assumtion is correct.
@Kim- I am conducting a Day hike but if you or others would like to do an over night you are free to do so.

    July 23, 2012

  • Kim

I am interested this hike. Since this would be my first with the group. Is this just a day hike or a over nighter?

    July 23, 2012

  • Suzette L.

How long are we hiking for? I'm assuming 6-8 hours?

    July 20, 2012

  • Judith

Kelly thanks so much for the detailed reply, def a help

    July 18, 2012

  • Kelly S.

Judith: Only you can determine what your health can or can not tolerate. I can only tell you what the hiking conditions will be. There will be slopes and stairs to get down to and up out of the creek bed. Along the creek bed will be flat but some getting over rocks and over/under logs may occur. If Big Branch is a 0 on the difficulty scale and Smokie Mountain trails 7 on a 0-10 scale then I would rate this one as a 4.

I have been really wanting to meet all of u and go on 1st hike in ions, with that said though I'm not in no pristine health condition, so is this an okay trail for a struggling beginner and newbie,lol..? If so, I'd love to make this one as well as bringing a guest...

Does anyone have any advice on what to bring for this hike? I've never gone on one before and I want to make sure I'm prepared. I'll be googling it too, but any input from the group would be much appreciated. Thanks!

    June 28, 2012

  • Kelly S.
