McKinney Roughs Thanksgiving Cheezy Eggs Hike

If there’s no Turkey in your Turkey Day...

then join us!

McKinney Roughs is a beautiful park and Thanksgiving will be a great day to explore it! This will be a 3-4 hour hike looping down by the Colorado River and back. It has lots of shade, some elevation and some nice river views. If you’re a “Thanksgiving Waif” then join us for a nice long hike (6-8 miles). The prize at the end is a trip to the Waffle House on 290 for some Cheezy Eggs! YUM!

We’re going to enter McKinney Roughs at the Equestrian Parking Area. GPS [masked], [masked]) Entrance fee is $4/person. (It’s the honor system and no change is available.) For the intrepid MUD HIKE veterans, this is the entrance at which we met last time.

Travel 20 miles east on 71 from I-35, turn left on Pope Bend Rd. If you pass the Hyatt Lost Pines on the left - you have gone too far. The Pope Bend trailhead is located 1.5-miles down Pope Bend Road on the right side.

For those who want to carpool from the north let’s meet in the Spec’s Parking lot. (5775 Airport Blvd) We’ll gather at 8:00. I will be driving the Cheezy Eggs Express!

ON TO THE REWARD!

Mostly to shut me up, Dave has agreed to take us all to The Waffle House. Ok, Dave has agreed to Go to The Waffle House (8800 Us Hwy 290, East, Austin TX 78754) after the hike. It’s about a mile east of 183 on 290 East. We’ll come back via 183 and take a quick detour for our Cheezy Eggs.

••• If you’re already south and want to carpool use the note section to set something up.

Please bring a great story about a family holiday fiasco to share. I will be sharing my Father’s Whiskey Sour story.

Please be on time. We will try to meet at the trailhead at 9 AM.

If you are running late call Dave, (512)[masked]

Bring enough water for you and dogs if you bring them. Also good shoes, snacks if you need them.

I believe I'll Ho on another one instead. I don't like it. But I have to obey my body in time of illness.

I think Kay and Healthynac are both looking to carpool from South Austin. Why don't you work it out here in the notes or message each other. I'm up north and will be starting out at Specs. Anyone joining the carpool up north? See you Thursday!

Kay, I'm without a car at the moment. I don't mind pitching in for gas. Otherwise, I had planned on meeting everyone at Spec's as planned.

Weird. Carpool at 8. Hike at 9.
Perhaps it was the Cheezy Eggs Gremlin, hoping we'll be late so he gets more eggs?
