PRRT #1_2009 - Inca Trail, Peru

  • July 4, 2009 · 12:00 PM

THERE ARE NO MORE HIKING PERMITS FOR THIS PERIOD. LOOKS LIKE WE JUST GOT SOME IN TIME. YOU CAN STILL VISIT MACHU PICCHU BUT YOU JUST CAN'T HIKE TO IT. THE AGENCY DOES OFFER ALTERNATIVE HIKES FOR THE TRIP PAKCAGE AND SO IF YOU WANT TO JOIN US AT THE LAST MOMENT CONTACT THE AGENCY BELOW FOR AVAILABILITY AND INFO. MENTION MY NAME.

At least one other person in this meetup group and I are planning on doing the Inca Trail this summer. I am puting this out there in case anybody else wants to join us for their vacation of the year. We decided not to bother with figuring out a cheap way to do it on our own and are doing it though a travel agency called "Andean Treks". The trip we are doing is called "Empire of the Incas" and its from July 4 to July 17 and if you add an amazon trip it will be till July 19? Here is a link to the trip:

We are in the midst of sorting out our reservation and if anyone else wants to join us, e-mail me or contact the person below. If you really are interested you will need to hurry since the Inca trail permits for those days are running out very fast.

Andean Treks Experience - In the link below is the trip itinerary prepared for us by the agency we picked.

I felt the cost (~$2000, USA flight not included) was very reasonable. All the hotels we stayed in were excellent. The tour guide provided to us, Juan Calderon, was very friendly, knowledgable, and was there for us through out the trip. I was very satisfied with this tour agency and their main guide. I would try them again if I go back.

PERU IN GENERAL - Lima and Peru is definitely a safe place to visit especially since the time I last visited in 1996, although, even back then, Peru felt safe. Just use the same common sense you would use in any international place popular with tourists to watch after yourself and belongings. Peruvians were very friendly all over I went. Cost for food, lodging, and souveniers was all reasonalble as well.

I could have not chosen a better trip to be my #1 hiking event for the Pacific Rim Ridge Trail (PRRT) concept that I have been playing around with in my mind. Shortly I will be downloading some pictures and info for this trip that can help any of you thinking of doing it in the future. Please revisit this posting and check the comment box below.
