Tour de Fat

Love hiking the Ridge Trail? Want to support the work the Ridge Trail Council does? Then come out to the 7th Annual Tour de Fat in San Francisco, put on by New Belgium Brewery! Granted this isn't a hiking event, but it is so much fun and if you have a bike, then come on out!

The event is FREE to attend.

ALL proceeds (yes all!) from beer and merchandise sales are shared by the Bay Area Ridge Trail and San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, so bring your friends and raise a mug to toast two great organizations. Proceeds help open more miles of Ridge Trail for you to enjoy! Tour de Fat is an annual ballyhoo of bikes and beer, with music, fanciful entertainment, contests, art displays and, of course, New Belgium's Fat Tire Ale and other brews.

Bike, walk, run, Muni or even drive to Speedway Meadow in Golden Gate Park (north side of the park, east of Spreckel's Lake, between 25th and 30th Avenues).

Schedule of events:
10:00 am - 11:00 am: Register
11:00 am - 12:00 pm: Cruiser bike parade - costumes highly encouraged!
12:00 pm - 5:00 pm: Commence Revivalation! (Beer served to those 21 and older with ID).

Volunteers needed, including bicyclists to be bike parade monitors. Please email [masked].

Nearly 7000 people came out for the 2009 Tour de Fat in San Francisco, put on by New Belgium Brewery (they make Fat Tire Ale). All beer and merchandise proceeds as well as tips benefited the Bay Area Ridge Trail and the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition. Total, Tour de Fat netted just under $40,000 (the Ridge Trail received half of that)--that's a lot a loot to help move the Ridge Trail forward!

Folks enjoyed the ballyhoo of bikes and beer beginning with a bike parade around Golden Gate Park. Costumes (and bike decorations) were frivolous, very SF style! The afternoon included the beer garden featuring 5 New Belgium brews (Fat Tire Ale, Blue Paddle, Hoptober, Mothership Wit, and 1554) and entertainment from several bands and the Tour de Fat carnies. The Do-It-Yourself tent (new this year) allowed folks to screen print their own t-shirts, stamp and dye leather wristbands, and make buttons.

With the sun shining on us all day (finally!), we had a fantabulous time!

Thanks to all the BART & More folks who came out on such short notice and helped make the Tour happen! We raised over $18K for the Ridge Trail Council, $5K more than any previous year! Next year, we'll post it to the group in advance, and make it a real Meetup.

    Go Red Sox!

Brilliant. Perfect weather, bikes, stilt dancers, and some seriously good music. And great beer poured by a great crew of volunteers ;)

Hi Josh! I'll be in a blue wig and white feather boa with some sort of hideous red/white/blue sequined ice skating costume (with jeans). I'll be there all day (as I work for the Ridge Trail)!

I'll be helping with set up and pouring beer in the 11:30 - 2:30 shift. Look for the guy in the Red Sox gear :)
