Nearly 7000 people came out for the 2009 Tour de Fat in San Francisco, put on by New Belgium Brewery (they make Fat Tire Ale). All beer and merchandise proceeds as well as tips benefited the Bay Area Ridge Trail and the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition. Total, Tour de Fat netted just under $40,000 (the Ridge Trail received half of that)--that's a lot a loot to help move the Ridge Trail forward!
Folks enjoyed the ballyhoo of bikes and beer beginning with a bike parade around Golden Gate Park. Costumes (and bike decorations) were frivolous, very SF style! The afternoon included the beer garden featuring 5 New Belgium brews (Fat Tire Ale, Blue Paddle, Hoptober, Mothership Wit, and 1554) and entertainment from several bands and the Tour de Fat carnies. The Do-It-Yourself tent (new this year) allowed folks to screen print their own t-shirts, stamp and dye leather wristbands, and make buttons.
With the sun shining on us all day (finally!), we had a fantabulous time!

Brilliant. Perfect weather, bikes, stilt dancers, and some seriously good music. And great beer poured by a great crew of volunteers ;)

I'll be helping with set up and pouring beer in the 11:30 - 2:30 shift. Look for the guy in the Red Sox gear :)
